I understand differences in tone and all that. I'm thinking a little more on the mechanical side of it. I have researched the Edison Effect and basic tube science. But what exactly makes the different models of tubes stand apart from one another? And why do some amps have mix and match preamp tube compliments? I'm wondering about all this because right now I'm in the market for a valve rig.

Also, I just noticed today makes one year for me on the forum!

That would be a book worth reading for sure.

Hi there.

The most knowledgeable guy I know is Bob Pletka of Eurotubes Inc.

https://ssl.eurotubes.com/index.htm

Bob knows tubes inside and out and can tell you all about the different pre-amp and drive tubes, get him going and it will be hours before you know it.

Just tell Bob Jeffytune sent you, he and I are old friends and he will take care of you.

Superb link. My grattitude, sir. I can't stop reading long enough to go expel some of this beer inside of me. Anyway after I finish reading every bit of info on the site I probably won't need to, but out of curiosity how would I get in touch with Bob?
