Aside from Guns N' Roses I love Skid Row and Cinderella.

Not into the cheese stuff with the more than usual over the top teased hair etc a la Poison, Ratt etc. Just can't get into that at all cos I can't take them seriously.

Of course I love AC/DC and I would count Aerosmith as a 70's band. I like E'Nuff Z'Nuff now but that was simply cos my mate Tory got a gig playing for them and they were pretty nice to me.

Oh and I adore Hanoi Rocks and Michael Monroe solo.

Its bits and bobs really, same as Grunge, Merseybeat and Britpop etc no 2 bands in the same genre sound the same at all.

- The best from the decade overall was Guns and Van Halen

- The two albums Ozzy did with Rhoades are still his best two solo albums

- Living Colour was excellent (especially live)

- Skid Row's debut album was excellent

- Numerous other hair bands had their "moments" of being very good: Cinderella, Krokus, Ratt, Warrant

- Roth's band for his two solo albums was amazing, with chops never seen before in a rock outfit (Vai, Sheehan, and Bisonnet)

- One AWESOME guitar player in a horrible band: Reb Beach who played for (shudder) Winger

Anyone see The Rocker speaking of 80s bands. Not the greatest movie but had some funny moments.

80's Metal? Love some of it, laugh at the rest of it lol That said, here are some of my favorites:

Judas Priest-Though Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin and Stained Class are my favorites (70's), I still love British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith.

Iron Maiden

Black Sabbath-As someone pointed out, Dio re-invented them. RIP Ronnie.

Dio

Slayer- The only band of the Big 4 that stayed true to themselves. Reign in Blood kicked my butt when it was released.

Metallica-Up through ...And Justice for All. Can't stand anything after it.

Anthrax

Megadeth

Motorhead

While I do like Van Halen, Ratt, Dokken, Motley Crue and Whitesnake (especially the Slide it In record and everything before it) I consider them more rock n roll/hard rock bands. Not metal.

krokus rocked. still love the song midnight maniac.
the open riff is unforgetable, easy to play, and signature to that band.

imo there wasn't many 80's bands that could compare to the 70's metal bands except for Ozzy's first two solo albums, Randy Rhoads, who I was lucky enough to have seen twice was and still is the best rock guitarist that I've ever seen. Also, Sabbath's "Heaven and Hell" is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. But both of these were over by 1982.

Way Cool, I wouldn't consider Steve Harris to be underrated, you can't see one discussion on top metal bassists anywhere without hearing his name mentioned as either #1 or 2.
*Geezer still smoked them all though imo.

How did I forget Motorhead? The lineup with Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor on drums started the speed metal/thrash metal genre of rock and roll.

yeah now they consider harris. back then it was all about nikki sixx and the likes. heaven/hell wasnt a bad album, but it didnt rock nothing like born again. geezer was ok. i like him because he and an old friend of mine were/are good buddies. i can say this, tony got lots of credit for keeping sabbath together, when all along it was geezer silently behind closed doors.
