Hmm

Dio/Sabbath-still underrated imho. He reinvented Sabbath and then had some great solo stuff. One of the best metal voices ever. RIP

Ozzy with Randy Rhoads

Slayer-Stereotypical thrash at its best. Known already as one of the big 4, but they made all other music sound weak until death metal came, which was always too much for me. They have my favorite drummer, Dave Lombardo. Slayer because they took it as heavy and fast as possible while staying musical. This is as heavy amd fast as I could ever get, and they were fun as long as you don't take it all too serious.

Metallica for the long intricate songs. I though Kirk Hammett did a great job in those days.

Megadeth's Rust in Peace came out in '90, but was one of the best guitar albums ever imho.

Testament with Alex Skolnick on guitar.

Lita Ford was in her heyday back in the 80's and put most of her albums out then. I liked her tunes "Close my eyes" (with Ozzy) Kiss me Deadly was another good one, as was "Back to the cave" and Wake up Call.

Poison -I did like some of their stuff

Blue Oyster Cult I also liked.

The Cult - Love is in my top ten of my all time favorites

Kix- self titled album was great too, they took a Cheap Trick sound and made it harder.

The Cult

Anthrax

jeff

man i bet you and i could go on for days with this topic.
80's metal was good times at its best. safe for everybody everywhere to listen to. there were so many bands. who needed a cd player or cassett player? just turn on the radio and jam.
i would have to say my fav band from the 80's hands down is cinderella.
man tom kiefer can really play the blues. if you never saw them live you wouldnt understand my claims. he would take a 0 minute blues solo from hell. why he didnt play like that on album i'll never figure out.
in those times, they probably wouldnt have sold as many albums honestly.
and vintage gear, man that dude had some sweet guitars and amps.
his tele's were to die for. listen to some of the blues cuts off of
long cold winter. crazy

that being said, i think the most under rated singer of the 80's was
jani lane of warrant. whats really amazing about this guy is he still sounds today live like he did in the 80's on album. the guy can really carry those
pitches in person as he did on the album. a really tight band well worth your money to see.

most under rated drummer has to be alex VH. man that guy can pound the drums. hes as tight of a drummer as you could ever ask for.
the biggest problem with his popularity was his brother eddie.
you think VH you think of eddie. understandably so. then you had the fame of neil peart on the rise.
folks also think of tommy lee, but i never thought he was anything to
brag about. didnt ever see him live though. hes off stage acts and girlfriends i think put him on another level that he wouldnt have gotten w/o them.

most underated rythm guitar player would have to be brad whitford of
aerosmith. the guy played a very good guitar. kind just out of the media
eye but played a very big part of the tone that band had.
if you found him in the mags, it was usually the back pages.

most underated bass player is probably steve harris of maiden.
that guy just plain rock. listen to ANY of his albums and you will see what i mean.

hardest working musician that didnt get enough press in my opinion was
the red rocker sammy hagar. so many times the guy almost caught a break ya know. so many times. thank God eddie noticed him and brought him on board the VH train.

as far as bands i just dont see why they didnt make it, i would have to say
killer dwarf's. listen to the stand tall album. those guys really rocked. they
just didnt get the break they needed. just a touch of press and they would have made something of themselves.

best mag for guitar players was guitar school. best mag ever for us.
they should have kept that mag going. there was alway something in it for everybody.

best guitar company of the 80's was kramer.
what happened to them? they had all kinds of folks on their list.
the kramer american was a very solid affordable machine.
even jeff beck was known to be on the band wagon with kramer.

most underated amp had to be the musicman twin.
man that amp was as clean or as dirty as you needed. loud, that damn amp was very loud. tied for this is the roland jazz chorus.

and lastly, the company we could have done w/o is digitech.
man what a waste. they just never made anything worth having.
every effect they made was just....almost......it was always lacking.
i do still have the digitech gsp pro thats been upgraded to the legend.
its a rack effect with floor controler. used it for about a week and went back to my boss pedal lineup. still have it too lol.
