Hey All

Im green as here and this is my first post :)

Just a question to see if anyone out there can give me some advice on this one. I have just got in my possession a 1977 USA Fender Strat with a Kahler Locking Trem System on it. Can anyone advise me as to if this is going to drastically change the tone of this strat and if i wanted to convert back to the standard fender bridge is this an expensive exercise and one that wouldnt be recommended - I guess the pro's and con's of this.

Thanks all for having a look and providing some advice :)

my opinion kahler is garbage. i would do what it takes to get it back to original. if you have a locking nut on the neck then your gonna need a locking bridge of some sort. anything but kahler.
if theres no locking nut you should at least get locking tuners.
care to post a pic of this guitar and its bridge set up?

Good Thinking.

the locking nut is included and with a standard nut fitted.

Im thinking about converting it back to original fender bridge if i can. Got her at a good price and she does play beautifully .. im just really not sure about the Kahler trem now.

Nahh i havent had it out yet and as far as i can tell yes a little bit of the body may have been cut. Thats where i think im going to have the issue to convert it back to original bridge .. might be a right pain in the proverbial..

I hope i can

hum......i would see how much wood has been removed. you might can go with a floyd rose trem. heads and tails above what you have.

i have seen builders block up the hole with wood and redrill for a different tremolo with great results.

what sorta cost involved to do that would that i wonder ??? I read Dave Gilmour put a Kahler trem on his strat around 83 did an album on it and then retired it until late 90's and had a techy remove the kahler and block it up then re fit fender bridge... hmm so thats given me some hope ..

What fenders do u have or had ?
