Jimi was one of my first big influences and probably the reason why the Strat is my weapon of first choice. However, it was Page and LZ that really fueled my interest in playing guitar . . . until I read EVH's assessment of Page's playing.

I have equal amount of respect for both of these guys and I love their music. But I've got to say that I think Hendrix can match Page lick for lick.

Man, Hendrix was just wild with his style, especially with his rythym. Somewhere between 2:30 and 3:00 of his Voodoo Child track is just friggin' amazing, he get's real low with that groove and I just love it.

I also love Page's Stairway solo from the DVD set. Filled with energy.

But they are so different that they are real hard to compare, except for maybe the distortion

I think "better" is a very relative term. Rather than choose between them, I'd rather just listen and be amazed at the way each of them can take a very simple lick and, with phrasing, turn it into a signature piece of rock music! That's talent. Also, where would we be if Jimi hadn't died at 27 and had continued to grow and innovate as a player----we can only dream!

This was a hard one, but since it said "Opinion", I picked Page. I've been listening to Zeppelin longer than I can Remember , and I remember discovering Hendrix.

If I had to weigh in Hendrixs' influence on the culture, technical advances, and musical inovation, he would win. But when I decided I wanted to make the sound the Radio was making, Led Zeppelin was on it.

I voted for Jimi because of his creativity with the wiggle stick.

I like both - always inspiring, always trying different stuff out, neither afraid to experiment.

Hendrix inspired me to play - catching Woodstock late one night on BBC2 in the early 80's knocked me for 6. A few months later and I caught Song Remains The Same at the pictures and I relised there were three great guitarists in the world - Hendrix, Page and me!

I love them both.

Both were fantastically influential to rock music.

I hear more players that sound like Jimi than Jimmy. But I don't know what that means. Maybe it's is easier to sound and play like Jimi. Or maybe it's that more guys just want to sound and play like Jimi than like Jimmy.

If Hendrix were alive today, there would be several modern day guitar heroes who wouldn't have a career as so many of them "borrowed" Hendrix's stylings for their own. Further, can you imagine what Hendrix would sound like all these years later?

IMO, Hendrix was always amazing to watch and to hear, genuinely thrilling. I can't say the same about Page, especially in a comparison between the two. I'm not slamming Page at all. Yet, having seen both live back in the day, believe me, Page is positively not in Hendrix's league.

That's an interesting thought. Would Frank Marino and Trower have been as successful back in the 70's? Probably not.

No, I can't imagine what he would have ended up doing!

Although I know Hendrix really mastered the guitar, I listen to Page a lot more.
