ok so heres how it went.
i checked the site of my local guitar center and see that they have a fulltone OCD pedal in the used section for a good price.
the only thing with these pedals is its very hard to tell
the versions apart. they have V1, V2, V3, V4.
the V's 1-3 all have a red light but V4 has a blue light.
so i call and get a guy named brandon on the phone. i ask him about the pedal and "which V is it" that ya have. he tells me that he believes its a V3.
he said the owner traded it in on a V4. ok great because thats the V that i want. i ask brandon if theres a way to be sure that its a V3.
he said he could run the numbers and see, to call him back in 5 minutes.
so about an hour goes by and i call him. he says to me
"yeah man its a V4". so i told him that the one in the pic had a red light not a blue, meaning it had to be V1, V2, or a V3, because V4 had a blue light. he said yeah i mentioned that to the folks at fulltone (folks)
they said that be the numbers its a V4 and they had no idea why it didnt have a blue light. ok so i put the pedal on hold with GC while i did some research myself. i emailed fulltone and asked for a number to call them.
i got a reply saying that they use email only.

ok so heres my deal. fulltone pedals are made 1 at a time.
in doing so the quality is higher and its less likely that mistakes are made.
if youve noticed in any of the fulltone ad's for the new V4, that blue light is always on, and every so often depending on the ad, they even mention the new blue led light. so this leads me to believe that the blue light means something special with fulltone on this new V4.

secondly, fulltone said that they (he) did business by email.
so how did ole brandon call the guys at fulltone?
besides, there isnt any "guys" at fulltone. its 1 guy, owner/designer.
but the thing that gets me most is that brandon said that he remembered the guy trading the pedal in on a V4.
ok so he claims he remember the guy trading it in on a V4, which is what hes saying this pedal is lol. seems ole brandon cant remember his own story, or the customer actually thought a new V4 would sound better that the V4 he already had lol.

before i give my thoughts on what i think really happened here on this, i want to hear some opinions from the creative folks on this forum.
how do you think this whole story really went down?

he quite simply lied to you by the sounds of it..

sounds like fulltone arnt the kind for putting the wrong light in..

i think most people who deal with guitar shops regulaly have met the plank who delt with you at somepoint, they are everywhere. "can you sound arrogant? will you not ring people back? can you get orders wrong? can you lie to sell quickly?? yes??? "youve got the job"

thats how i think the interviews go sometimes. lol.

i would ring that bloke back and say what youve found out.

tell him you spoke to the "folks" at full tone and they want him to ring the office on the other phone because they cant remember him ringing and want to discuss the pedal further, and give him a premium rate porn line, thats the mature way to deal with it anyway..

I believe that is business as usual over there. He was Making up a scenario so he could get you to buy the pedal. Every piece of equipment in that store has some "story" that goes along with it. I think they are resorting to creative storytelling nowadays to help sell enough merchandise to make their monthly quota, Thats Sales for Ya! 8)

You guys are amazing. All you guys do is yak about how bad GC is. Why do you even bother dealing with them if they really are the anti-Christ you claim they are?

Most mom and pop shops don't carry as broad of a selection and they usually sell less stuff/buy less stuff so they have to charge more. Most also don't have the room to store or display equipment from 50 companies

Same reasons people go to a grocery store for meat than a local butcher, even though you probably get better and more knowledgable service.

exactly. not every experience is bad. use to that you hardly ever heard bad about them. over the last few yrs corporate took over and the company has really ran down hill.

I haven't had any problems with the 2 GC I've dealt with.
Each in a different state.

In both stores they've been friendly and helpful.
No pressure tactics or lying. Boston store even talked me out of a purchase of a used pedal !

It's quite simple. Comparision shopping and taking advantage of dollar savings in a competitive market. This Forum's members know their stuff whereas most of the sales staff at GC don't know s--t from Shinola and, even if they do, don't have or care to take the time to, even if they might.
We've already established, on several other threads recently, that GC's quality of service varies from store to store, so it's caveat emptor to the nines, and we are here for our mutual self-interests, because nothing but the best will do, and that's what we've got.

I'm mad because all the guitars that I want to try out at GC, they don't have.

I called ahead of time to ask about guitars I can try out to buy. I listed about seven or eight and they said they don't even have them to try out.
