recently i've been hankering for a 12 string , browsing gumtree the other week i came across an ovation applause ae-35 for a great price of £40 :D i had a word with snowy , cheers mate ,and we went a run into glasgow to check it out . All was fine apart from it only had 6 strings and it was filthy , i had to scrape the crud off the fretboard with a steel rule  i then gave it plenty of lemon oil and sorted the frets out , (badly worn) so after a load of lemon oil to to the fb and bridge and a good clean and polish to the body and neck , it looks like this now

the strings only arrived this morning and once i got it all strung and tuned it's sounding excellent and it sounds much louder than a normal bodied accoustic , cheers
Alan

thanks guys , it's lovely guitar now that all the years of muck and sweat have been removed , it didn't look too bad when i got it but now it's like a new guitar :D i don't know how or why some people let thiere guitars get in such a manky state . soundwise i have no complaints , it sings and jangles 8) and the deep bowl back seems to add an extra resonance that i'm more than happy with . My fingers were a wee bit sore this morning , i haven't played a 12 string in about 10 or 12 years , it's one way to build up strength in the old fingers :D . Today i might plug it into the clean side of the marshall to see how it sounds plugged in , i'll let you all know 8)

You've done a great job cleaning her up Al, well done mate. I still say you got a real steal there, made the trip all the more worthwhile. I'll bring my AER acoustic amp over next week for you to try, I'm guessing this Ovation will sound very cool through it 8)

As Homer Simpson would say, "ten thumbs up."

That is sweet looking. You never know what you find. Let us know how it plays.
