In the big scheme of things, this forum is a tiny piece of the music world, both listening and performing. And yet, obviously, there is a lot of disatisfaction with todays music. This should be very encouraging to all concerned. Change comes about when someone or a group of someones, decide that the status quo isn't good enough. I can pretty much guarantee that "the next thing" will come from this disatisfaction. Music, like love, ain't always the way we might want it to be, but if you follow your heart and can stay true to what you like, you never know where things will go. There are many, many very talented people out there. Maybe you have some ideas of where you want things to go. Make it happen. Pick up your guitar and join with other like minded people. We might just be talking about your music in the future! Never stop playing or dreaming! 8)

one of the worst "lack of musical knowledge" i can think of was when i was in the locker room waiting for football practice talking with one of my friends who also plays, and this guy overheard us and asked " whose eric clapton?"

The good news is that with all the niche music supported through digital distribution a lot of quirky and original acts are bubbling under the surface, even if they don't break through. So while the anti-original corporate Borg Mind still controls the major media outlets and MTV and Starbucks etc (and Austin City Limits--man, that show has gone putrid) there is some cool stuff happening locally and underground if you dig for it.

People at my High School either listen to rap, or crappy pop-rock like "The Jonas Brothers" or "Fallout Boy". It's pathetic, and it makes me sick.

i disagree with you... although nirvana changed music around a bit, it was the start of something new, much like when sabbath started the mainstream hard rock revolution.... i enjoy nirvana and there are still quite a few bands today that are incredible musicians.... i do feel there are much less quality band than in other eras, but only time will really tell

as with someone stating something about "the jonas brothers", artists like that annoy me.... for anyone who don't know who they are, they are a band on the disney channel who are pretty much corporate tools to bring in viewers.... while it seems as though they play instruments live, they have a guitar and bass backing them, leading me to believe they actually don't play their instruments and are once again tools of mainstream media

i really don't know, but those are my thoughts

i agree with the dude who posted this. (sorry i didn't really check)
most of the kids at my school also listen to rap. and if not rap, its either country, screamo, or just a whole bunch of other crappy stuff. so its a good thing that there is the Fender Forum.

PEACE! 8)

When I hear a hip-hop song with a lot of me, me, me lyrics and a bass line lifted from a 70s funk song, I know that's a musical dead end. Music goes into dead ends all the time. Kids like it for a while and then it passes. The blues is alive in a lot of little clubs and rock and roll is the blues. The record companies wonder why sales are declining; maybe because there's no radio outlet for new blues and rock artists, or even for great old mainstream bands like the Eagles who release new material. Still, the music's alive with people who really play guitar, not video games, and love music all around, and lots of little bands bubbling under the surface.

Even though I'd rather not be 50 years old, Im so damn glad I am. The music I grew up listening too is timeless, most of todays music is forgettable. Parents need to teach their kids what good music really sounds like.

I've recommended this band before. If you miss good old fashioned 70's style rock, something with the kick of Zepplin, you need to listen to Rose Hill Drive. They're a band out of Boulder, Co. Pete Townsend loved them so much they opened for The Who on their last U.S. tour. They've got their own website and Myspace page with tunes. Give em a listen if you want to remember what young guys playing rock sound like.

I like many in this forum dislike the vast majority of popular music on the radio is, for lack of a better word, terrible! Whenever I hear all of the kinds of music that was said before I just want to break my radio. Like a couple of other people I have a lot of people in my high school who listen to music that lacks any depth on any level and it tends to make me pretty angry. I think that while this music is, in my opinion, bad it is ualy a good actually a good thing for people who dislike it. What I mean is that it gives those who don't like it more willingness to stand up and change the path the music industry is following, which is somthing I would like to do.
