I was wondering about the weight of my Fender Squier SE (from the start dreaming pack). How do I find out the weight of it? I don't see it listed on the official site.

Thanks. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for another guitar for next year and I'd like something a little lighter. So I'd like a frame of reference for the weight of my squier. I have it in Brown Sunburst.

One easy way to check the weight is to weigh yourself on your bathroom scales and then weigh yourself holding the guitar-the difference will be the weight of the guitar-that's if your scales are accurate.

They don't list the weights because the weight varies from one guitar to the next even when they are the exact same model and finish. I have two 2004 AmStd strats. One weighs 7.0 pounds and the other weighs 7.4 pounds.

If you have a digital bathroom scale, that should give you a good weight reference.

You can still use a digital scale but you have to lay the guitar flat on it... or you could take it to UPS and ask them to weigh it.

Get yourself a danoelectro. There aboult as light as it gets and are good players. Very inexpensive also.

I'd guess that your Squier weighs about 7.5 to 8 pounds based on others that I've handled.

A strat with basswood or poplar would weigh a bit less. I have an early 90's MIM Strat that weighs 6.250 pounds.

You could always take it to the post office and weigh it there. Especially if they have the computer self serve kiosk. Those scales are very good.

But the bottom line to your question is based on the wood used to build your guitar. Paulownia is the lightest guitar I own. The neck weighs more than the body. But the sound does not compare to Ash which is a little heavier but much lighter than basswood and probably alder. Maple and Mahogony are the heaviest guitars you will ever run into. Unless you make one out of granite.

So basically you need to save a lot of money and shop for a quality guitar or build one yourself or with help. Check out Warmoth Guitars for more explanations on wood.

Just be gald you didn't carry or don't carry an M14 rifle and pack all day, 40 years ago or M16A2 or M4 and pack and body armour, now.

An easy way to get a good, light guitar is finding a good semi hollow or hollow body guitar. They sound great, feel great on the shoulders, and are a lot of fun to play.
