It looks it is scheduled for August 10 for Toronto. Looking forward to meet Mike and the CS crew. Maybe even get ready to buy one of 'em CS strats who knows.

I have been saving for Gibson LP but nothing but VOS 58 and 59 seems decent, however they cost pretty $$$$. I might exchange my money for CS Strat instead.

The only thing that worries me the this high end guitar will become my #1 and I will have to take it to some shady places to jam and that implies a possible damages/theft, hmmmmm.

Do you guys/gals take your CS guitars out to gigs.

I don't do CS guitars because I feel they are a pretentious waste of money. Seriously, people only buy them so that they can tell you they own a CS instrument. In reality, a CS guitar isn't going to make you sound any better than you do now if you already own a quality guitar and play it through a quality amp.

If I were to buy one however, I'd play it wherever I went to play otherwise whats the point of owning it?

Did I tell you about my guitar yet? :?

No but I'll bet you find reasons to tell people about your guitar. And find a way to work in the words "Custom Shop" somewhere in the conversation.

Have fun at the show. If you can, post some pics.

CS guitars are cool in the hands of others. Me, I'd be more paranoid than the guy on Spinal Tap. "Don't touch it!"

I love the 'sustain' bit. That gets me every time.

"naaaaaaaaaaaa"
"you can go and have a bite and naaaaaaaaaaaaa....you'd still be hearing that one."

(sorry, I saw the guitar pic and had to post the link--I know the pic is a 1958 and the one in the clip is a 1959 and this clip was probably posted more times than can be counted.)

Maybe you are right, that happens when certain people buy anything for status purposes. Trust me, I am not one of them. I work hard for my money and I am looking in investing into high quality instrument to be giged given that for the price difference it has to wow me with the quality.

I am not saying that I will for sure get a CS. I have tried in the past a few and my experience was

CS 60s = garbage (my rowing paddle has more life in it)
CS LTD 59 = WOOOOW but too much money around ($5,000)
CS Deluxe = decent guitar and great price around $2,300 but not better than my MIA Std and much far away behind the EJ strat sunburst/maple neck.

My current best guitar is my 07 MIA Standard. It is good quality instrument and served me well so far. There are things on it that as I developed as a player found that would like different.

1. I prefer chunkier C or soft V neck VS. the modern C
2. Prefer 6105 frets (tall and skinny) VS. short and wide
3. Prefer more clear piano or bell type pickups VS. hot and dark.
4. Lighter overall (This guitar is almost 1lb. heavier than 05 Gibson LP standard that I had rented)

No to upgrade all this would not make any sense (i investigated the options).

Nevin I never said that the Custom Shop didn't turn out nice guitars, I only stated my opinion that they are overpriced and pretentious. If you don't feel that way it's totally cool because that's your opinion and we're allowed to differ.

Play what you like.
Own what you can afford.
At no time in my initial post did I say "gear snob".

I like to look at them too (I don't really get the attraction of a reproduction old guitar), but my decison point on all musical gear is "will it make me a better player" or "will it make my sound better" and no, a CS guitar won't do that. So to my way of thinking there is no point in buying one.

Simple fact is the Custom Shop makes desirable guitars that are nothing like the regular production models.

I think the Custom Shop Nocaster guitars are great value. And no, its not just a more expensive American Vintage '52 Telecaster.

I still have my Squire strat. Am I a snob?

Aside from your "Gear Snob" signature?

Seriously though, nah. For me, whatever people get is their business. Not jealous, envious, or whatever either way. Have a CS? More power to you. I like seeing those that others own. I've never cared about what people own. You like it. Cool.

Some people collect cars, stamp, figures, rare albums, etc...and some want to own a CS guitar. No big on my front. Get what you like if you can. If I could CS a guitar I would, but can't. No big. No worries. If a person acts snobby about it, screw you. If not, more power to you. (Nevin1985--not a snob btw :) )

Just post pics. :D I can't get out so love to see what others have.

Thanks for the post, I'll be there, just a short subway ride for me.

I'm curious to have a look at the CS. I looked at the list on the CS web site. I personally am not interested in the relics, I'm kinda reliced myself so would prefer something new looking and shiney. The regular strat or tele in cherry are appealing. I'll be save'n my pennies just in case.

daniel,
Hope you find what you are looking for!! Today the little brown truck is delivering my newest addition a 2010 Strat in LP Blue with a Maple fretboard. I am excited to get it, so I can appreciate your feelings. I made a deal with my wife that the next guitar I buy will be when I turn 50 and it will be a CS Tele built to my specs. Let us know how it goes and hope you find a guitar that speaks to you. I am like Nevin in that I have gear that ranges from the Squier Strat which I adore to my AM Standards to MIM standards. Fender is just awesome IMO. That said, Nevin did just get a SWEET new LP the other day!!
ABS :D

I really hope I can go to this. It's on a Tuesday and the Monday before is my first day back at work after a week long vacation so I'm not sure how I could possibly swing it. But I'd love to try a couple of these and shake hands and say howdy to Mike Eldred too.

Crud I really hope I can go to this. I've never been a big L&M fan, but I guess I'll have to give the store a second look.
