My daughter just came home for a visit for the first time in over a year and brought her boyfriend, real metal fan. That's not what I expected because the heaviest she's ever listened to is Aerosmith.Anyway he's into guitar but he traded an American standard Strat for a '01 Gibson SG, still to his credit he kept his MIM Strat which he said he likes better.Anyway he was dying to try out my Marshall JCM 800 2204 Cdn. Model.I knew that he was a true shredder when he wanted to use my Guv'nor for more"crunch', if an overdriven Marshall doesn't have enough crunch you must be heavy into shredding.Anyway we tried a little jam but he didn't know standard blues or rock progressions and when I played rythym he just shredded full tilt with no phrasing and had a hard time staying in the right key. This guy has the makings of a good guitar player but he's too hung up on the shredding thing and I find that in a lot of players today, they can play fast riffs all day long but can't jam worth a tinker's cuss.He did say however that my Epi G400 Custom(3 pup SG bodied Les Paul)was way hotter than his Gibson SG.While they're I'll have to show him that there's more to playing guitar than playing faster than the speed of light.

Hi Nevin,Are you refering to him asking that his name be taken off so his ex wouldn't get a cut on the royalties? That's pretty funny. The "official" story was that he just hated it but they printed a pic on the Dec. Guitar Player with him smiling and holding a 3 pup SG bodied Les Paul Custom (like mine).
