Hello, this is my first visit to this forum, and I have come here in search of information. What better place to find info on a Fender instrument?

I scored a very cool and fun bass at my local Guitar Center, a 1990-91 Fender HM 4 string, made in USA bass, with Lace Sensor pickups, red sparkle burst finish, shark fin inlays, and factory active B/T. I have been unable to find any pictures or descriptions or official information on this particular model. The only Fender HM basses I have seen have the dot inlays, one tone, and different pups. Just last night, looking at a classified for a Heartfield DR, I discovered that what I thought was just a cool paint job, might actually be a graphite layer on top of the headstock and under the fingerboard.

So, thanks in advance for any information, or links you may have on this instrument. BTW, it sounds and plays amazingly. The tone is very modern, bright and aggressive, nothing like my 69 Jazz. I'm really enjoying getting to know this bass.

Hi. Welcome here! Nice HM bass.
I have an HM Strat from 1989 and know how difficult it is finding info about the HM series. Fender seems to treat the HM's as an ugly b@stard child that they want to forget about. HM's are not traditional, but they are underrated.

You might want to start with a post in the "All other Fender bass guitars" section of the forum here: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... m.php?f=11

Or there is a website dedicated to HM Strats, they might be able to help out with HM bass info too: http://www.heavymetalstrat.com/

Good luck!

Nice bass! We have the same one, but in a darker brown. Ours is identical to yours, but the knobs were changed. Missing one of the originals. My son is the bass player, and he just took this one out of the case after not playing it for a long time. Was thinking about selling it, but I just can't part with it. Not many around. Bought it on eBay a few years ago, think I got a good deal at $350. Best of luck with the HM! Glad to see another one out there!
