IT'S NOT BAIT AND SWITCH IF THERE'S FINE PRINT!

Its just an ad with many terms that you must agree to or qualify for. Just like the car industry...not everyone gets the low finance rate for low or no money down that they advertise on TV, its only after you meet various qualifications do you get that deal.

So if they said you get something off, with no fine print, then only once you make your purchase do they tell you that you can't get the price printed, thats bait and switch. But then again, I'm not a lawyer, but the fine print probably excludes it from being considered "Bait and switch" legally...

The thing is, 95% of most of the coupons, deals, percent off savings from MusiciansFriend and GuitarCenter over the past decade have excluded most of their top selling name brands...Nothing new to me...

Hi Jeffytune,it appears that the only way you could have gotten a 15% discount is if you bought $300 worth of Dunlop picks. It's rarely I do business with any chains and deal almost exclusively with one Mom and Pop store, their prices are often better than the chain's anyway.

Not even then, as it has to be a single item over 299 up to 500 maximum off.

Look, I have no problem with excluding a item, but really, read this list and them please tell me what the hell is included in the sale?

I run an Auto repair center, it like my compilation running an 88 dollar brake sale. i know then they know no one gets an 88 brake job, there just trying to get your car on rack, and then they hit you with a price that is more then what I would do it for.
I tell my customers the truth, we need to inspect it first then we can give you the real price, no games no hipe, just a honest bid.
I have been tempted to put a sign outside stating "We fix 88 dollar brake jobs".

That is my point, don't go on about a store wide sale that excludes 99% of what you sell over 299.

It would be better to tell us what IS included.

And is the reason why I buy my stuff over at Portland Music.

Unless it's going to be below there cost, then I make the Evil empire pay.

+1 Jeff. I got screwed like that when I bought my Egnater Rebel 20 and cabinet. They sell it as a half stack but would only give me 15% off the head. So when I bought the second cab I waited for one of the 20% sales and bought the second cab. They just plain suck. I wish the Mom & Pop stores sold all the stuff I want.

I love the Egnater stuff. How is that half stack?

with e-mail coupons, you can print more than one. Could you have bought the head and used the coupon, then returned later to buy the cabinet with another coupon? (Or maybe the cabinet is not $299 or more.)

I don't like the fine print and exclusions, either, but you can still get some good deals at GC. Each store is different, and some of them are pretty good, with knowledgeable sales people. Also, some companies like Gibson really limit their dealers (they have to stock a lot of inventory) and a lot of mom and pop stores do not qualify to be Gibson dealers, so you have to go to GC or a regional chain.

+1 we stopped dealing with big box chains altogether for pretty much everything.
Couldn't stand all the BS .
Get the Thursday/Sunday flyers rush down to get a good price on something within the advertised time frame and end up getting majorly hosed.

We now go to the local shops for most supplies, items cost a bit more but we don't have to drive 1/2 hour or more to get to their doors. Also haunt ebay / kiji / craigs-list for more reasonable prices, don't mind pre-owned if it is in good condition and saves a packet.

Goes right down to items like food, there is a big push on in town to buy local, only items grown or produced within 50Km of your residence. It is nice knowing you are supporting your neighbors and they are supporting you with their business..

We have also made the decision to pay cash only, and stop using credit for personal items. why feed the financial institutions coffers with interest off your hard earned money if you don't have too.

It's business all right, BAD business! It's amazing what businesses have stooped to, all in the name of, "doing business." More than that, it's amazing what customers will put up with just because this style of business is so widespread.

Harumph! I say. Give me good, fair, honest and open businesses to deal with. :(

IMO (Rant over, but don't get me started on telephone soliciting!)
