Here's a Fender site - not well known

http://fenderplayersclub.com/

And this one is not bad - good info and videos via youtube:

http://justinguitar.com/

Hope this gets you started.

There are lots of them out there:

The vaunted competition has some lessons, too . . .

Another great site is TrueFire which sells lessons for cheap, but still has lots of free ones, also.

http://truefire.com/

Good luck !!

Some good ones have been mentioned. I'd suggest using Google and You Tube for searches. I agree that there are many.

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com is probably the best guitar site on the internet besides this one

they have news, lessons, video lessons, reviews, tabs, and forums which all can come in handy.... i find their lessons are decent (look for higher rated ones) and the reviews are good as well..... their forum is quite large as well, but they aren't quite as friendly as here

I get most tabs either from ultimate-guitar.com or fretplay (not sure exactly what the URL is...)

If you are just starting out buy a scales book and a method book or two and start practicing playing scales an hour or so a day.

Well you don't need to buy a scales book, but it is easier to have the pages in front of you as you try to work through them.

Also get a metronome.

Might also help to take a live lesson or two at first just to get started right

A couple of scale and method books I've found useful are
The Ultimate SCALE book by Troy Stetina (Hal Leonard corporation)
Guitar Fretboard workbook by Barrett Tagliarino (Hal Leonard corporation)

Trouble with many of the sites is they give you tabs, but not the direction to use them if you are not familiar with getting around your fretboard.
