I just told my friend of 7 years to exit my property. He's been a fool and inappropriate many times before this. i just got fed up with it. In front of my kids no less. Details to follow. Anybody else been there before?

Okay. I'll go first. The man is 52 years old and acts like a child when drunk. He's never had kids, never been married and lives with his father. That's no excuse to act like an $@!.

Yeah, I've had to cut a couple loose over the years because of questionable behavior. It sucks, but you gotta do what you gotta do, especially when there are kids involved.

Thanks for the reinforcement. I know I'm right. It just helps to talk about it. My wife is working late, so I can't talk to her until she's home. I'm fed up with it. So are the kids and my wife. We've all know him for so long, but he's unpredictable. When he gets in these moods, there's no stopping him, short of telling him to leave. Next day he says he forgot what happened. He comes by once a week. So it's easy for me to forgive and forget. Not any more.

Before I could make a comment, I would like to know just what it was he did.

At this point, I'm curious too. But repeated drunken behavior around kids is pretty much a deal killer.

Be mellow.

'Sounds as though you did what needed to be done. In this experience, most friendships have a finite lifespan; very few are of the metaphorical, "...'til death us do part" high quality.

I have friends like that too, who sometimes I can't even bring around to meet new people because I just can't trust them to act like decent human beings.

Often it's hard to deal with them.

I'd say if he was being like that repeatedly you have every right to kick em out regardless of the circumstances. But especially if it's for your kids sake - You did the right thing.

The short version: Your friend needs help. He's an alcoholic. The truth is, many don't get help until they hit rock bottom. You did the right thing.

i am an alcoholic. i like to drink cold beer. i have an extremely high tolerance. most folks have no idea how much beer i can consume. it's sad. for my birthday, my co-workers bought me beer. i ended up with around 72 beers in all. it lasted one weekend.
my point. noone has the right whether they are drunk or sober to act like an idiot around your kids. it's your home. if this guy can't handle his booze and be respectful of your family, then to hell with him.
i treat folks with respect whether or not i've been drinking.
