I'm going to New York on Wednesday and was wondering if anyone know of a good guitar store in Manhattan? I had planned to buy at least a couple of pedals while I'm in the States since it is much cheaper there than here in Norway, but then I realized I had no idea where to go :D

Thanks!

Actually, I may be in NY later in the year so I'd be glad of some up-to-date info as to where's nicest for guitar shopping these days too. Few years since I was last in town. Thank you in advance. :D

BTW: hi brage90, welcome to the Forum.

Cheers - C

48th Street in Times Square. Sam Ash and the world famous Manny's as well as Rudy's Guitar Shop and Guitar Center. Though I can't recall exactly how far GC is from the others, but I think its within walking distance. All the others I mentioned are all on the same block, across the street from one another.

Yes, this is what I'd heard. I'm way out of date too - I need the latest lowdown (as Boz Scaggs would say)...

Yup Manny's is a goner. So sad. I used to go in their most days.

A favourite of mine is Matt Uminov down on Bleeker. Great wee place and well worth checking out!

Depends on what you're looking for. There's the Sam ash on 42nd and the Guitar Center in Union Square if you're looking for that kind of store. As already mentioned if you want vintage there's Uminov and the Chelsea Guitar shop, and someone mentioned Rudy's too. the Union Square guitar center also has a lot of vintage guitars too. If you're looking for awesome pedals then I also recommend Rogue Music. These guys have some cool, cool stuff.

There's also the East Village Music Store and First Flight music which is also in the same area.

I think these are all worth a shot.

Manny's closed down over a year ago. I believe Sam Ash bought them and closed them. It was just a so called business decision. I've been there dozen's of times in the past. It was more like a museum. It's sad, they had some very cool memorabilia there.

I'm origenally from the NJ/NY area. If you don't have any luck in NY stop over into NJ and check out Monmouth Music, in Redbank. Ask for John Sheridan. He's a fair guy and will always do right by you. It doesn't hurt that he is my uncle.

It's a pity that Manny's has closed, with all the giants of music past and present that have sat there and jammed or just dropped by to shoot the breeze, they should turn the building to a musican's shrine.
