hi,

just hired a john mayer dvd, " any given thursday " thinking it might actualy be blues, but nope just his cheesy arrogant stupid self playing his cheesy crap pop that sucks pure pop cok....

he is an amazing blues guitarist (world class) yet hes a just another pop sell out. whats wrong with him.... arrrrghhhhhh... he must love blues because he gurns hard when he plays blues solos, and he is so influenced by srv.

anyone know if theres any dvds or albums of when he was in a blues trio????????? just want mayer playing blues, thats all i want.... please..

I'm assuming you already have Try!, the album he did with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino? That is the only blues album I'm aware of him releasing. I don't like his pop stuff in the least (Unfortunately I don't think he has much say, seems the record label has him by the short and curlies). Or I saw something to that effect in an interview when Try! came out.

Sadly, more often than not it is. Granted, he was a virtual unknown when he signed his initial deal, so assuming he's still locked into that, its almost like indentured servitude until you can get to contract re-negotiations. Whenever this contract expires he could probably go anywhere he wants with whatever conditions he wants.

For instance, the version of Daughter on Try! is light years beyond the version that all the girlies swooned to in their lonely teenage rooms.

The John Mayer bashing gets old. Even I like to do it, but you know what... when someone comes here looking for some answers it doesn't matter what the topic is.

A little help would be nice.

This is some good stuff.

Mayer is such an easy target LOL. That's it, I quit. I'm going home.

Nevin there are a million flaws in the concert/s you posted links to. Needless to say I'm not going to list em, I don't want to appear to be argumentative about tastes.

If that's his best, thats just the reason I refuse to join in to a Mayer slanging match.

I don't get it. I don't even see how he's creditied as being a soulful player. Really I'm not arguing that he isn't, I don't want that argument. I just dont get it. He makes all these faces like he's giving it loads but the playing is very meh to my ear. He obviously enjoys it though. I wouldn't even call that blues. His cover of Axis sounded like Millie Vanili had orchestrated it, though I only lasted 2 minutes of it.

Please mate, explain this one to me off forum, I don't want to argue about Mayer online (I think thats what his carreer is based on). I understand a lot of people rate him, but I just don't hear it and would like it cleared up.

I have "Where the Light Is", and it's a great DVD which has an acoustic set, the JM trio, and the pop set.

I like the whole thing, awsome guitar work.
