Yeah $12,4xx is a lot, but I think $5,xxx is way to much also for an Eric Clapton Strat.

Thanks pjtrate3, You got me. I guess the least i can do is buy his album now  at least I can afford that. No disrespect to Gary Moore intended, I've always been a fan. But I'd like to think that Gary wouldn't even buy that signature guitar for that much CASH. Lets face it Peter Green Sold him that les paul pretty cheap when he dropped out ( I read it was about $500.) I believe second hand may be the way to go as long as it had a good previous owner.

I'm a big Gary fan as well, from Thin Lizzy to the metal of the 80's all the way up to his blues of today. The cd in that link is probably his most authentic blues to date :)

But I agree, Gibson is completely out of their minds with their pricing. I threw down a big chunk of change for my '58 Historic (and that was with an employee discount!) but it seems you really do need to be a Dr. or a lawyer to afford some of their instruments.

"I just saw the new Gary Moore aged '59 Les Paul Gibson is putting out. $12,459.00 MSRP."
Some people will buy them and then try to play the blues, maybe some recording people that we know of, and they will make those funny faces when they play like they have the blues, boo hoo hoo I have to make this face because my Bentley has a parking ticket. Muddy, Albert, SRV, Jimi, Junior, all of those Bluesmen are laughing at us big time maybe they're laughing at us more than the business men selling these ridiculous guitars.

I've seen some of the Fender Custom Shop Signiture models go for pretty hefty prices. The Andy Summers Tele goes for about $10K.

Any company that produces a Keifer Sutherland model guitar is more than a little out of touch as to what guitar players want anyway.I can't see paying that kind of money for any new Les Paul no matter whose name is on it.If I were to buy a Les Paul these days I'd buy an older one or a MIJ Orville by Gibson. From the experiences some people I know have had with new Les Pauls an older one seems like a safer bet.Epiphone is making superb '59&'60 Les Paul reissues,I played one and was amazed by everything about it.

A Kiefer Sutherland Guitar? Didn't know he played.
What's next? A Gibson Mel Gibson?

I would never pay that much for a guitar. I don't care who it's modeled after. Stuff like this is why Gibson is losing a lot of consumers IMO.

I think you're right about the excess but I am guessing those high prices
are for the wealthy. Certainly not for me. I am very fortunate to have picked up what I have thus far. I might do it one more time but I don't
see myself indulging past $3000 and it may be awhile before I dare do
that again.

I was looking at Gibsons but they are waaaaaat out of my price range, except maybe for the Joan Jett one that I'm looking at online because I'm curious on what women play. I'm not one of those 'oh this artist is on it so I have to buy it' kind of person. I'm just interested in what women guitarists play so I have a frame of reference on what kind of guitar (when I start to play better) I would like to save up for.

I agree with Nevin 185 though. You don't have to buy the most expensive, just what gets the job done. Some of these guitars out are just outrageous. I just want a guitar that plugs in and plays well.

You hit the nail on the head there. "Custom Shop" Fenders are more expensive, but you usually get a guitar built to your specifications. You want a Merele Haggard Tele, you are going to get a guitar built just like his.

I think anyone who spends more than $1500 US is crazy. A good quality instrument should not cost an arm and a leg. This is why I love Fender and Squier guitars so much.

And this is a bargain???

Or 25 grand for a Blackie. It's not just Gibson. Parker has some stiff priced guitars too.

If I ran a guitar company and I thought there were customers out there who'd like to pay 12 grand for a model with someone's signature on it... I've a feeling I'd build that guitar for them.

I suspect I wouldn't worry about whether they planned to gig it or not. And I'm afraid I probably wouldn't be too terribly concerned what the customers of a rival guitar company thought about it either. I'd be too busy grabbing the money to spend on my trophy wife! :D

But I'm not.

Cheers - C

I buy what I can afford. None of this price stuff ever bothered me. It doesn't make me any less a musician. Like I said before, give me a cigar box guitar and I'm happy.
I can't understand why people are always complaining about Gibson's price structure. Just don't but one. Fender has some pretty pricey stuff too. I won't buy that stuff either.

It's funny, but I was bitching on the previous page about Gibson's pricing. I had to run to my neighborhood GC last night and low and behold they had the Production version of the new Slash Appetite Les Paul (I'd already played the two Custom Shop versions at $6500 and $10k, respectively). GC's price on it was $2600 I think and to be honest, I liked it just as well as I did the $6500 one.

Granted, it didn't have as high grade of a maple top as the other two (the most expensive model is Murphy aged) but it played and sounded every bit as good. At $2600, its still less than I paid for my '58 and when you consider LP STD's are almost at that price anyway, it got the old wheels spinning

You bet! I'm working on some designs now and I'm thinking about fretting it. Cheap easy fun. :D I'll build you one for $7500 just because my last name isn't Fender or Gibson. I'll even age it too.LOL
