I just put a set of Beefy Slinkys (.11 to .54) on my guitar and man they feel good. Huge but good. especially coming off a set of extra slinkys (.008 to .38). Next set may be the Not even slinkys. (.12 to .56) My fingers are going to hate me later.

I have one guitar set up with thick strings. It gives it a biffier tone. I like them a lot.

I'm still very much a beginner, so I am trying new string sizes all the time. Plus, everything rusts like crazy here so I have to change strings alot, but I'm getting good at changing them at least. Actually these are almost as big as my acoustic's strings.

Where are you located? I assume it's near saltwater?

I live in okinawa japan, right across the street from the east china sea. Stainless steel rusts here and quick. I have to put my guitar away every night to keep the strings good enough for about a month or so , if I don't they are rusting in about 10 to 15 days.

Very cool, I love .11s. The one thing I miss are those huge Buddy Guy/Santana bends that you can only get if you're strong enough. I'm think of changing my string gauge to 10-52s so that I can bend them with less pain and still get the beefy bass that I love. :D My current set is 11-49, so I'd actually be getting beefier bottom strings than I have now. In fact, I think I'll change them out tomorrow.

Wow that's insane. One month. My dad has been to Okinawa and Hokkaido with the Army NG doing joint training exercises. From his account, I would definitely like to visit. As a bass player I'm curious about how long bass strings last there.

I know the feeling. I live in Houston, which is very hot and humid most of the year. My strings are dead and rusted out if I play an outdoor gig, and indoors in the summer they only last a week or two.

If you don't mind me asking, are you from Japan? You speak English very, very well. :)

No, I am from Tennessee. I came here in the USAF and met my wife here (she's from Iowa) and her job is here.

I have one of my strats set up like that and I think the chords sound fuller and have better tone. I plan to set the other up the same way.

I loved being stationed on Okinawa. Is Fukahara Music still there on Maromi street? I still have my polishing cloth I got there when I bought an Aria Pro II Cardinal Series guitar. I miss the place and would love to go back. You should buy some Finger Ease. It is a spray on for the fingerboard and strings. It helps keep them lubricated and clean. Of course you may have a situstion like a friend of mine. It seems his sweat or something about his hands would corrode strings very quickly. I am fortunate that I am very string friendly.

Is First Chance / Last Chance Restaurant still there just outside Gate 2 of Kadena AB? I loved the Yakisoba they had there.

I always loved going to the Japanese music stores. It seemed they had a better selection of different guitars. Enjoy your time there.

Not sure about fukahara. I have seen the sign but never have been sure where it was. I get all my stuff teruya music on BC street.

I use fast fret, it seems to help a bit. First/ last chance is still there. curfews and people being stupid have kind of killed the nightlife here. Most everyplace is shut down at midnight now. When I first got here in 2004 We could party until the sun came up and then some, I've been in Last chance at 8:00am before (got there about 4:00 am)
