I saw them in 1985... I think they were on the same bill as TSOL... That was in Washington DC

TSOL, some more California punk, roughly around the same time frame/era as Agent Orange, Social Distortion, Youth Brigade, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, the Dead Kennedys, and The Dickies to name a few....And just like how many grunge bands often sound like no other bands in the same "genre", many of these California bands sound nothing like each other...

...And as far as Flipper, they are okay...to me they are just one of those bands like the Butthole Surfers and Flaming Lips that sort of just get a bit wierder with each album/CD they put out...but oftentimes in a good way...

From what I remember, Flipper were one of the better bands I saw... But I saw sooooo many punk bands from 1984-1987... That was when the DC punk scene was peaking... Here is a list of some of the bands I saw at that time:
Bad Brains
Fugazi
Government Issue
9353
Suicidal Tendencies
Flipper
DOA
TSOL
GBH
MDC
Dead Kennedys
Black Flag
Circle Jerks
Wasted Youth
Social Distortion
Scream (w/Dave Grohl)
Butthole Surfers
BeefEater
Reagan Youth
The Cramps
Fishbone
Black Market Baby
Pansy Brigade
Bad Religion
Iron Cross
JFA
Naked Raygun
Husker Du
Murphy's Law
Marginal Man

and many other obscure DC bands...

Our band played on the same bill with quite a few of the bands I mentioned and our band used to hang out with Scream and Dave Grohl... Before Dave became famous...

GBH and Bad Brains are still 2 of my favorite bands of all time. A friend of mine I grew up with in Maryland actually plays with the singer of Government Issue in one of the bands he's formed since GI. My brother used to take some phots of a lot of the DC straight -edge bands in the late 80s...I think Far Cry may have used his pics for one of their 7-inch's....What band did you play in? My brother and I used to follow the DC scene pretty good...though I was too young to go to shows, he'd tell me all about them and dub the demos and 7-inch's he'd picked up at the shows and matinees...

I used to play bass for Phlegm... You can look them up on myspace as PhlegmDC.... Our singer Barry McEvoy went on to become an actor... I saw Government Issue maybe 20-25 times back in the 80's... And we played with them on the same bill maybe 3 times ?

I am fairly certain I recall seeing that band name a few times in the show listings in the City Paper back in the day....
