Dave has spoken correctly in the matter, amigo. You are dealing with a significant neurophysiological and neurochemical process not unlike opiate addiction. Forty years of nicotine saturated brain tissue is a lot of water under the bridge. The mechanisms are quite similar and the process of withdrawal has to be managed in similar fashion because it can manifest itself in a variety of psychological and behavioral ways. Suggest you seek out a medically managed smoking cessation program to your advantage.
