Now maybe the time to start some Positive Association.

Every time you beat a craving, take a deep breath and Smile. Smile like you really mean it.:D

It will make you feel better over time and will help replace the anxiety with a true sense of achievement.

Remember, we can reprogramme our brain the same way we taught ourselves to smoke in the first place.

As always Martian, you Rock!

Hope this helps...a bit

Andy

Yeah, keep thinking positive thoughts.

When I quit many years ago, I kept having these dreams of smoking, but eventually they went away too.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL!!!

I followed up on every reference that was given to me, read every bit of literature that was sent to me, followed through on every behavior modification technique and general advice anyone offered me, right down to eating some dill pickles. The bottom line:

The cravings are OVER, the weird array of emotions are just about over. All in all, I feel really good, really clean too, if this makes any sense. I'm not climbing the walls nor have to compulsively keep busy any longer. I know I won't relapse or cheat either. The Who's, "I'm Free" keeps circling in my head now.

Having you all as my support network was invaluable to my victory.

Once again, my PROFOUNDEST thanks to you ALL and to those who took the extra effort to help me, I owe you; you know who you are.

Well, I'm following you.

I had been cigarette free for about a year and a half (20 years of smoking before). Well, I went to a three day concert/beer fest a few weeks ago and completely jumped off the wagon. I start back to being a nonsmoker again tomorrow. All I have to do is make it through those first 3 days, then I hope I'll be OK. The first 3 days were the hardest last time. The good thing is, I learned to use my guitar as my distraction last time and plan to do the same thing this time. Once I get the urge, I just get a guitar in my hands and do anything....scales, songs, etc.

Wish me luck! I'm gonna see if the kids want to spend the night with friends......I get cranky.....oh, and did I mention my wife is having to do the same thing?! We jumped together and will quit together.....again.

Martian. Dont let your guard down mate. K?

Truth is, it's all about perspective. Are you suffering withdrawl or are your body and mind healing?

I've got every confidence in you mate. Infact I'm off down the bookies in the morning to put money on your permanent win.

8) Best of luck Chief. You already put a great foot forward by choosing to quit. Be strong and remember each cigarette not smoked is a dollar closer to a guitar you could reward yourself with 8)

i quit smoking about 3 years ago, i started smoking around 16, my whole family smoked so naturally i wanted to. i fell in love with a girl who was allergic and asthmatic and i decided that i'd rather be with her than smell like a cig butt all day. and now we're married :D

my advice is think of your loved ones, think of the people who this will effect, and also think of how this will effect you. how much better you will feel after a breath of fresh air. its totally worth it.

I truly wish you all the best!

Like you said (and I have just found out), if you immerse yourself in something until the compulsion tapers off, you can and will get over it.

Of course, all the best to your wife too!

The guard is totally up for good!

I'm past withdrawal; the body is still the same, the mind is firmly committed. I've found myself being more active as somewhat of a diversion but by the same token, it also has shown me many of my now unacceptable complacencies too.

Put your money down on me to win!!

Hey Martian, congrats on standing your ground. Every time you won't smoke, life will fill the gaps you left for her. Hang on and good luck. :)

Another thing I did that was a great source of encouragment.

I took the money I would have bought cigarettes with, and put it in a jar on the fireplace. It wasn't like I was missing the money, I would have only burnt it anyway.
Having that pot to look at everyday was a big help. I did it for 2 months and saved £327. Thats around $490 at todays exchange rate. Physicaly seeing that grow day by day, feeling better, being in a better mood and having more time to myself.

Thats another big saving, time. BigJay explained it to me. I never smoked in the house. I always went outside. No matter what the weather. Now say like me you smoked 20 a day at roughly 5 minutes a cig. Thats 1 hour 40 mins of your day spent smoking, your probably only awake for 18 hours. Smoking costs roughly 10% of your time as well as potentialy shortening your life.
