I'm wonderin what is the best guitar scales and theory books that you've tried. I quit lessons since my guitar teacher got in a wreck and couldn't get that "groove" back with any other teacher. I feel like I'm standing still. Thanks

I'm pretty happy with the Andy Aledort Guitarworld series. They come up every now and then at the grocery or your local magazine store. I've also used Wolf Marshall books but he is now sponsered by Line6 and you have to have Guitarport to get his lessons online. It's not a bad investment but you have to be ready to pay $10-$15 a month for the lessons.

I also recommend Andy Aledort,he's a wiz and his instructional videos are easy to follow as he slows down riffs and scales so they're not a blur to watch. He has instructional videos that come with the monthly Guitar World mags. His tabs etc. are also right on the money.

Theory for the Contemporary Guitarist
by Guy Capuzzo.

if you cant get basic theory from this book as easy as he explains it, you wont get it anywhere else. great book.

in my opinion, to become and to stay a well rounded player,
one should always have fresh study material on hand and working through it regularly.
a lot of players get to a point where they stop learning and growing
as a musician/player.
they then struggle to find the problem and often just grow tired
of playing and hang it up for a while.
so in order to keep from reaching a plateau, keep studying and learning.

key word......"most".

its all about delivery.
depending on how a message is delivered
is if one recieves it and processes it or not.
my case in point,
read this book and then go read a theory
book from al di meola.
same info, delievered in 2 very different ways.
or if ya really want a mind flip, go get the book
chords,scales, and melodic patterens.

To many different deliveries of the same thing can confuse as well when learning.

Checkout www.licklibrary.com as they are IMHO the best guitar site on the web and have a ton of lessons and instructional DVDs. Check out the practice technique DVDs by Dannt Gill and Andy James on alternate picking, string skipping, tapping, sweep picking, they are excellent and will break down the techniques which I would advise over grabbing one of songs by a band that are note for note which they also have and there is nothing wrong with. But it is good to know why things work.-Good Luck.

I'm a big fan of the Blues You Can Use series. They teach theory, how it applies to the fretboard and the example tunes are pretty good.
