Get a wider strap. I use 4 inch wide straps they distribute the weight better.

Little sister your best bet is to sit down in a Guitar Center and lay hands on every guitar you can that falls within your price range. Play them standing with a strap, play them seated, try to play them through the same model amp that you have. Then make a decision

a lot of good advice, Schecter is a good guitar, an Ibanez would be lighter, a bigger strap would help on weight distribution, a new Fender will make you happy so do some research and let us know what you choose 8)

I will. It won't be for a long time, but at least I'll have some ideas before I go into a guitar place and ask questions.

I honestly don't know about Schecter guitars, but their basses are a surprise. A good feel, and they sound very good. I was tempted a few times to go with one.

Hi Lady VA have you considered a hollow body or semi-hollow body guitar? These guitars are generally much lighter than solid bodies. A hollow body such as the Epiphone Casino is just that, there's just empty space between the top and back.BTW the Casino has single coil P-90 pickups.A semi-hollow body has a solid block of wood running the entire length of the guitar up through the middle but each side of the center block is hollow such as the Epiphone Dot,which has humbuckers(they're not as prone to feedback as a single coils and have a thicker tone) .I agree with Alanssaab the Epiphone G400 is a great humbucker equipped guitar and they start at around $225 for the bolt on neck models but the more desireable set neck costs a bit more.I have a G-400 Custom very similar to the regular G-400 but it has 3 pickups and gold plating and only costs around $550 for a relatively light guitar it has a very heavy tone. The cheapest option was what Chet suggested to buy a very wide strap- at least 3" but 4" would be ideal and it does make a big difference.

Okay, thanks.

After throwing my back out pretty bad, I'm thinking of a lighter guitar. Any suggestions? Does Fender make lighter guitars for us gals (unfortunately this one with bad back pain) :(

The lightest guitar I ever played was a Parker.

I like some weight on my axes.

But yeah, gender is no barrier, try everything out

one of my friends has a schecter and it is kindof heavy and the neck is way too thick for my taste so if you have smaller hands i would suggest something else. his sounds ok its not bad but a little muddy

Thanks. When i get better (hopefully that's soon--haven't practiced in a bit because I really hurt my back bad. Don't know how), I might go to GC to try out guitars. There's really no one by me (GC is a bit far for me and my local shop has no guitars really).

The Fender Mustang is also much lighter than most solid bodies and it sounds great, another plus is the short scale neck that's perfect for smaller hands.

I have a squier, and while it is a good practice guitar, the more I play it, the less happy I am with it. The E buzzes no matter what which ticks me off royally. When the tuner was changed, it solved the problem momentarily, but now the buzzing's back. The higher notes sound 'tinny' to me. (and I've had it set up) Maybe I'm just doing something wrong or in a bad mood, I don't know. I like my guitar, but def looking to upgrade a bit (or mod it somehow). But hey, I only paid $99 for the set (guitar, amp, strap, picks, stand, gig bag, cord, tuner, extra set of strings, demo DVD) so I can't really complain. However, I don't think I'll look at the Squier models. Not sure about the mustang. I'll have to play one to see what it's like. It seems pricey though for what's on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Sorry for the bad mood. I threw my back out pretty badly and haven't been able to practice since last week.

EDIT: http://www.music123.com/Epiphone-Vintage-G-400-Electric-Guitar-518669-i1150101.Music123

I've been looking at Epiphones as well, but I heard they're 'neck heavy' whatever that means (especially this one that's in the link). I like that worn brown type of color and the shape is kind of cool. Like it's been said, I have to try a few out.
