Just wondering if anyone ever tried Schecter Guitars. I was just looking at this because a lot of reviews say it's light. I love my Fender, but it's a little heavy.

Just wondering what to look at when getting an upgraded guitar (I'd like to get one by next year around this time--my goal is to get better at playing so I can justify a better model of guitar).

Any suggestions for a guitar for us gals who want to play electric guitar? (I like all kinds of music--really want to heavy rock though, like eventually learn to shred and things like that but still want to keep the basics like playing slow songs)

I know I'm asking early but I like doing a lot of research and putting ideas down so when I go into a guitar store, I know what to look for.

Hope this makes sense.

LVA,

I say this a lot, and mean it when I say it. You have to play as any guitars in your price rang as you can until you find the one for you. I have not played one of those guitars, but it sounds like a killer guitar. (right up my Metal alley) I have played other Schecters and generally they are nice guitars. With the body and neck being Mahogany, I think it would be a bit heavy. I know you are looking for a lighter guitar, but in my exerience a lighter guitar does not have as much sustain as a heavier guitar.

I am not one to stray away from Fender guitars, but when my daughter was looking at guitars, she ended up getting a Lace Huntington guitar. Hers is a HSS model and transparent blue, although I liked the purple burst better. Her guitar cost $117 after taxes, but that was a couple years ago. Check them out, they also make another model, but a bit more expensive.

http://www.lacemusic.com/guitars/huntin ... series.php

I know from experience that they are lighter than my Squier and definately lighter than my Fenders. Plus Lace makes some really nice pickups. It should complement your new amp nicely.

If you do play one of those Schecters in the store, I'd love to hear your opinion on it.

I've no opinion on them. My brother-in-law played strats for years and then decided he wanted a change and bought one. After about 2 months he finally admitted to me that it was not for him . He sold it for a loss (of course) and immediately purchased another strat and has never looked back.
I'm not saying that they are a lesser guitar but for classic rock and blues he needed a strat back in his hands. I have heard some good reviews on them but you know how much online reviews are worth.
Try several out and you may find "the" guitar for you! Good luck!! :)

Thanks. I just wanted some opinions so when I decide to go in and ask about guitars, I won't sound too much like an idiot (if someone will wait on me that is. LOL I have a lot of horror stories about retail).

I'm looking for something that'll be used for rock mostly. I'm guessing medium/jumbo frets since I have smaller hands, and not sure about pick ups. I still don't get the HSS, SSS things (If I'm using the terms right) or about the nature of humbuckers. I'm doing some research but it still doesn't make too much sense to me yet. I'm looking to spend under 1000. (I know, but I don't have a lot and I'm saving as in right now) I don't have anyone to talk to about guitar except on this forum so any input would be great.

I know I'll have to try them out. It's just getting out that's the problem with dad being injured and all. Mom's not doing so hot either. I'd just like to spend a few hours at Guitar Center just to try out guitars. I'm hoping to get out a little bit. I"m not holding my breath though. :(

Again, thanks.

Actually, I remember seeing a guitar was really little more than the neck itself with a bar that stuck out that functioned as a (upper horn) strap point.
I forget the name but it would suit you perfect. (I think)
It was pretty cool in it's distinctive simplicity.
If I find it I'll post a link.

Here is a traveler guitar.
It's close to what I am thinking of but not the same as the one
I am thinking of is even lighter.

I say exercise and learn how to modify your own guitar.
REALLY!
You'll be glad you did because you will get an envaluable education and
ultimately you'll be able to find the tone you're looking for.

Pardon me if I am dominantely old school minded Martin, Gibson, Fender, Gretsch, Rickenbacker. Those are the names I always remember most (Martin, Gibson, Fender being my favorites Gretsch and Rickenbacker being distant 4th and 5th)

Schecter, B.C. Rich, PRS and those types are the one I walk by at the store.

You might call warmoth up and ask them if they could make you a lightweight body for your fender.

I personally really like schecters, and I might possibly get a C-1 custom in the future. (that or this Chevelle custom sitting in one of our local music stores on consignment)

Are you looking into Active Pups? Personally I like the passive SD's but the thing thats good about schecter is that most of their guitars have the easy access panel... except I don't think the devil's spine does.

just a thought though...

I'm guitar lingo impaired. What are active pickups? (That's the same as pups?)

They require a 9v battery to enhance the signal travelling from the guitar. Those EMG ones are really popular with a lot of hard rock... my guess is that they stregthen the signal.

I'm no wiz either, I bet someone else can describe them better. But if the battery dies the signal coming out is dramatically weakened... :?

I'm gonna have to agree with Jeffo, Ibanez makes some really good lightweight shredders.

Thanks. The reason I was thinking of a lighter guitar because I had an accident at work and screwed up my back. I've got one of those gel pads from Planet Waves which works for me. I do exercises for my back, but because of the accident, it still hurts.

I just wanted some opinions so when I do decide to go in for a better guitar (who knows, I might just mod my own later), I'll know what to ask and look for. After seeing what's on here and doing research, I don't think I'll get or mod anything with active pickups because, let's face it, I hate batteries. I don't want to worry about batteries going out. (I have adapters for my wah pedal and use my computer for now for a tuner. I have other tuners, but just hate batteries).

Also, being a gal, I was wondering about guitars would not only sound good but feel good. The Squier I have does have a nice feel to it, so maybe another Fender would be a best bet for me.

Also, I was thinking of just trying this out just for the heck of it since it's from Orianthi and maybe more of a woman's guitar:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/PRS-SE-Orianthi-Electric-Guitar?sku=423597

I know I got a long way to go yet for even thinking about a new guitar, but hey, I figured I'd ask now so I can mark down questions already.
