If we are talking about full body hollow body electric, they are very nice for home use or a solo gig and VERY hard to control at unmiked stage volume with a band. I have played an ES-175 in band situations and I don't reccomend it unless it is your true passion. I knew guys that played the things and some that played unblocked Guild semi-hollowbodies. It is a true art as far as I can tell. You have lots of unwanted and hard to control feedback.

An ES-335 or some of the Ibanez blocked semihollow bodies are a lot more practical in live performance situations.

I have owned the following full HOLLOW bodies -- Gibson ES-175, Epi Joe Pass, Aria L5 copy, Gretsch (? some Korean thinline model), Epiphone Zephyr Regent, Guild X-150, Guild X-170

For sure the thicker the body, the worst the feedback... And feedback is definitely an issue with ALL full hollow bodies if you plan to play loud... The best of the buch that I have owned are the Guild X-170 ( my current guitar) and the Gibson ES-175 (good considering how thick the body is)....

I play in a jazz big band.. .So when I solo I really need to turn up my volume and I have no issues with my guild X-170... The X-170 is somewhere between the ES-335 and ES-175 in thickness...

I also own an ES-137 which is quite a wide bodied semi hollow... This guitar has the best acoustic qualities for a semi that i know... It also has a mahagony center block which I think is actually an improvement over a maple block...

Ibanez Artcore series

My bandmate has an AS73 (I think) must be about 300-350,00US$ We recorded most of the guitar parts in our songs with a stock one.

Recently he changed both pickups for Gibson 57 Classics. I'd also change tuners if it was mine, but it's a great hollowbody for the price.

+1 the AS73 has binding on the F-holes too. Nice touch. I did like it a lot better than the Epi and I'm a big Epi fan.

I like it better than the Epi Dot too. It's more classy looking and the ones I've seen were better finished.

I have jammed with this band before and the guitarist uses a full hollow ibanez... Granted it has a thinner than normal body...

and he seems to have no issues with feedback... and his guitar sounds great...

That's what I wanna do to mine when I can afford it... drop some 57 Classics or some Seymour Duncans in it and put some Kluson tuners on it.

It's my primary guitar so I want it to sound the best it can especially when I use it to record again and I've recorded everything from hardcore/punk to indie with it.

A regular Epiphone Dot and an Ibanez AS73 are both $400 regular price at Guitar Center. A Dot Studio is $270 at GC.

I have played both, and I liked them both. The finish on the Ibanez was a little bit better, but I liked the pickups on the Dot better. They are both fine guitars, IMO, and both great values.

I ended up getting a new Dot at a GC for $250.

When I bought mine 2 or so years ago the Dot was $400 and the AS73 was $300 at Guitar Center... idk maybe I got mine during a sale or something because I didn't see them move like they do now

If the Ibanez had been $100 cheaper, I would have bought that instead. However, I really do like my Epiphone Dot.

There are lots of good deals around, especially because the economy is still bad. This just popped up on the craigslist for my area, as an example.

That AS73 is the exact same as mine and I don't blame you for buying that Dot, it's a beauty. I may have gone the Dot route too if they had a natural finish back then but all they had was Cherry (which I liked better on the AS73) and Black. For some reason I hate black on semi-hollow/full hollow guitars or just on Gibson/Epi guitars in general
