Eric Clapton (all years and genres)
Pink Floyd (including the solo works)
The Beatles (also including solo work)
Robert Cray (absolutely great artist. very underrated)
The Eagles (especially Joe Walsh)
The Who (classic stuff)
Led Zeppelin (who doesn't?)
Jeff Beck (mind blowing player)
Early British Blues such as, The Animals, The Yardbirds, John Mayall & Bluesbreakers etc.
B.B.King
Robben Ford
Buddy Guy
Neil Young (great song writer)
Rush (amazing talents)
The Rolling Stones (early stuff, not the commercial crap they did after '73 or so)
So is that enough? I like a fairly eclectic mix but I tend to go for blues and blues based rock.
Pink Floyd by the way, if you listen to the song forms, have a definite blues oriented style underneath the modernistic soundscapes they use to create there signature sound. Great stuff to listen to and play.
Clapton though has been able to transform himself to whatever style/genre he is in the mood to do. His blues though are second to none. Everyone knows of his guitar playing prowess but, he does not get enough credit for his singing and song writing ability. He is definitely one of the top 3 artists of the baby boomer generation. Ah, there is a great topic to discuss, who are the best artits.
