Hi all,
Have been reading the forums for a few weeks and it seems like a good place! My question is: Do all chords derive from the major scale? That is to say, the major scale (Ionian) is always the measure when building or defining single chords?
Thanks

No minor chords derive from the natural minor scale.

Thanks for the fast reply's. I feel as if I'm about to really understand things better that I ever have. I learned most of what I know when I was a teenager, and now I'm ready to fill in all the holes. I want to have a working understanding rather than just being familiar with the subject matter.

100% agreed. It's downright bothersome not understanding why what you're playing works. I don't know how people do it.

It's like your mother telling you to eat your beans, well... "learn your theory!"
