You must take everything off the pickguard to put it on the new one.
It's no rocket science, just remember where everything came from.

Take care the wiring don't come loose, otherwise you'll have to solder
them in place again. You'll find wiring schematics at the Fender-site.
Click on ''support'' top of the page.

The short answer is "yes".

It's mostly an exercise in patience and concentration. If you have a digital camera, you may want to take pictures as you go so you have something to review during reassembly. Of course, once it's all back together, you have to setup the entire guitar again. That process is carefully described in the owner's manual, but is time-consuming by itself.

Such a project is also a good time to consider installing shielding in the cavities beneath the pickguard, cleaning and polishing, etc.

Changing a pickguard will need no new setup, just put the strings back on.
The only thing needed is to adjust pickup heigt to the old specs.
