As a Texan, I love Stevie Ray as much as anyone. But without Jimi, there would be no Stevie Ray. And without Muddy, there would be no Jimi. Or Keith. Or so many others.

So put me down for Muddy Waters as my number-one blues guitar hero. He's the Hoochie Coochie Man! 8)

You could go back and back and back. :) I'm convinced that we all play guitar because some dude in prehistoric africa or the middle east figured out that plucking a string makes a cool noise.

My favorite blues guitarist is Eric Clapton. I just got the From the Cradle album and it's some of the best blues music I have ever heard.

E.C. is the one who made me pull the trigger on actually learning how to play guitar. I saw him on a re-run of Saturday Night live from the 90's about 3 years ago and I was just plain out blown away. I think he did milk cow blues as one of his songs.

From the Cradle made my head explode. I had never really listened and disected blues like that before.

All that being said, BB, Albert and Freddie King, SRV and E.C. are my guys.

Check out a guy named Albert Cummings on iTunes. Working man blues is a great tune.

Stevie ray Vaughn- Texas Flood, Nuff said! A true masterpiece which still holds up today!

Hi Jeff.

I feel I must take exception with you here. While SRV is a outstanding guitarist and my choice as well for my pick as my favorite.

Couldn't stand the weather was by far his best effort. Texas floor was done in a rush and made to be a demo for the record company.
It is a very good CD for sure, and some may say that a true blues CD should be done like a live stage show as Texas flood was recorded.

There were some who said Texas flood was a fluke, and he was just playing blue standards, when they released CSTW it shut them all up.

And his version of Voo Doo child set in cement that he was a gifted player, and a force to be reconned with.
