Favorite?

Lots of choices--but I will go with Albert King--and I don't know if it's available on CD, but there was a great compilation called Masterworks available years ago.
There's also the album, I'll Play the Blues for You, and the live album Wednesday Night in San Francisco

Why?

His phrasing, his tone, his expression.
They really make me take notice--it's not filler music I can put in the background--it sticks out in a good way.

He is also a big influence in my playing.

Another I could list-if you want something more contemporary--and more in the blues/rock realm at times is Glenn Kaiser.
He doesn't sound like he's just playing songs, but that he means every one, and feels every one.

Check out Trimmed & Burnin'/Slow Burn (A re-release of two albums he did with harmonica player Darrell Mansfield packaged as a two CD set.) for some Delta style blues--lots of good stuff there.

Also check out his Glenn Kaiser Band stuff--which is more blues/rock.
The albums are all good, but especially Carolina Moon (the rockingest) and Octane.

+1 for Mr. Albert King!

My attempt at copying the King..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoUrJZLfUa0

Then the list includes: BB, Freddie, Albert Collins, SRV, Otis Rush, Johnny Winter, Matt Guitar Murphy, Joe Louis Walker, Robert Cray, Chris Cain, Lucky Peterson, and the list goes on... you can say I'm a bit into Blues :)

Oh forgot about the albums...

I'll Play the Blues for You and lots of other AK albums
BB Live in Cook County Jail
Freddie Larger Than Life
Albert Collins Live in Japan

and a few more I can't think of right now...

I like it rougher and harder but it is a toss up between SRV and Gary Moore. You have one ripping it up with single coils and the other with a Humbucker.

Any SRV album
Blues Alive-Gary Moore.

oooh hard one. As far as pure blues, probably BB King. As for the more blues/rock genre it would be Jonny Lang all the way.

I don't know about a fav album. I never was into albums as a whole, I pick and chose my songs.

That would be a very hard choice for me,I love Muddy Waters especially the Hard Again album and I love Albert Kng-his greatest hits compilation is a must have for every blues collection.Of course Jimi Hendrix although largely regarded as a rock guitarist was the quintessential blues player as evidenced on his Blues album and if you ever heard his Royal Albert Hall appearance and that version of Bleeding Heart I can guarntee if you have a pulse at all you'll get a lump in your throat.

I'll go with the man that SRV did.

Lonnie Mack, his voice is as great as his guitar.

SRV because I still wouldn't have believed that blues was a credible art form without him. Three chords and five notes sounds easy on paper. And I though it was all depressing music. I wouldn't have discovered or listened to any other blues artist had it not been for Stevie, and I wouldn't have realized that a lot of my favorite rock guys were actually playing blues (Clapton for example). I would never have realized all the blues history which I'm practically sitting on here in Houston (and Texas). And I wouldn't be where I am now on guitar without Stevie. And I wouldn't be doing half the things I do as far as music goes, I'd still be locked away in my bedroom playing along with CDs (not that there's a problem with that, I still do it but in addition to playing out). And I'd still be playing and listening to mainly metal since I thought that unless a guitar player could play fast he or she was no good.

In short, this blues playing texas guitar slinger would not exist had it not been for that other blues playing texas guitar slinger. :D

As a Texan, I love Stevie Ray as much as anyone. But without Jimi, there would be no Stevie Ray. And without Muddy, there would be no Jimi. Or Keith. Or so many others.

So put me down for Muddy Waters as my number-one blues guitar hero. He's the Hoochie Coochie Man! 8)
