I was wondering how many of you use volume pedals? i just reluctantly bought an Ernie Ball VP Jr. and i am quite happy with it i bought it because i wanted to add some crescendos and decrescendos to my bands music. what are your views on them and if you have one what kind is it?

I use one. I bought a Fender volume/tone pedal last year and it does come in handy at times.

Yeah, I've got one, don't use it too much, I think it's a dunlop and it comes in handy used as an expression pedal, saves rolling the volume knob. I've got a tone pedal too, that one's a Burns.

I used to have an Electro Harmonix Crying Tone pedal that besides being an excellent wah(with 4 different wah settings)had a volume function it was a great pedal and I wish that they would reintroduce it,I traded mine with a set of practice headphones for a Vox Phantom XII so It was a good trade to say the least.A volume pedal can be a great addition to a pedal board ,where I played a lot of Hendrix covers I found it great for the intros of songs like Are You Experienced or Foxey Lady where the volume fades in and fades out at the end.A volume pedal with practice can be great for simulating backwards lead breaks and steel guitar like effects such as in Are You Experienced and The Beatles Baby's in Black respectively.I'm going to be picking up another one in the near future so if anyone can recommend a good one that won't break the bank I'd appreciate it.

Many years ago in younger days I was surprised to see Mark Knopfler using a pedal to do his characteristic volume swells rather than hooking his pinky round the volume knob on his guitar. At the time I kinda felt the pedal was cheating - luckily I've got over silly ideas like that...

In fact, just the other day I saw him doing swells using the guitar's knob - what a multi-talented fella. :D

I mostly use the knob, especially for fast work. But sometimes a pedal gives a more controlled effect, particularly if your picking hand is busy with other stuff.

Cheers - C
