I just got through reading an article/interview with Steve Miller that was in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram a couple of days ago...

He was enthusiastically talking about his 50s/60s childhood in Dallas (he mentioned his "hipster" parents, T-Bone Walker hanging around his house, etc.); but one thing he said confused me;

"Dallas was great. It was one of the first to have Fender guitar stores."

Did Fender have manufacturer or factory stores at one time?

...or was he referring to an authorized dealer status of some sort?

Somebody please help me!! Thanks in advance...

There was a funny post by someone in another thread about Guitar Center,it was about Mom and Pop music stores and was really true.
You would have a local music store if you were lucky,and maybe a couple of Gibsons and Fenders and lots of cheap stuff,which was what most of us bought in the early to mid 60s....forget a Strat and Fender amp for $600 or so...it might as well been $6000.
They normally wouldn't let a young person play anything unless the adults were staring at every move you made....a scratch or dent in something would result in buying it,or a whoopin'...or both. :D
