Thanks for all the replies. I don't think i would consider surgery just yet. The orthopedic that gave me the cortisone injection actually operated my knee last year. The knee was torn, so nothing could help. At this point, I dont think my tendinitis is irreversible. He said if the cortisone didn't help the first time around, he would try again. I have also read a lot of bad press on cortisone injections and am aware of the side effects. I mentioned these to him the first time. He assured me a couple of injections would not be detrimental. I haven't gone back yet, because i want to explore a few more options.

When I was in grad school i suffered from severe carpotunel. I am an architect and was using a mouse 15+ hours a day with little sleep. The pain in my hand lasted 3 years. At the time I had seen many doctors, none if which recommended surgery. After 2 years my doctor decided to send me to relaxation therapy. He thought that it could be stress related, and i thought my career was over before even starting. They taught me how to relax, especially while working. Its been 10 years since then and haven't had to deal with it seriously since- luckily.

I believe that this is temporary and more of a hurdle than a ruptured tendon that would require something more invasive- the only thing that can really tell would be an MRI.

I wanted to give something different a try. You never know. In general I'm a pessimist, but I'm hoping that mind over body works- guess it already did once.

Anyone else out there that recouped from this? And how. . .

Thanks

Obviously accupuncture could never replace torn tendons or wornout cartilege or bones but that's not enough to pass it off as a scam. With many neuro muscular disorders where pain and/or spasmodic activity are prevalent accupuncture can be a Godsend.I was in so much incredible pain sometimes I actually was almost driven to suicide but several months of accupuncture greatly lessened the pain that drugs and a spinal fusion couldn't fix.Although the surgery stopped the nerve impulses that used to have my legs give out in under me accupuncture helped what surgery, high powered analgesics and physiotherapy couldn't fix and took away about 80% of my pain.

An orthopedic surgeon neighbour said quite a while ago, there are so many successful treatments for so many conditions around the world, it will take some time, even in this information-rich environment, to sort out everything known and how to apply the best treatment for the specific medical condition.

Best of fortune in finding the appropriate one for your specific need.

Sometimes individuals jump to conclusions on a basis of total inexperience and obvious ignorence. That is not to say that the individual is ignorent just highly inexperienced in the subject matter. It is always wiser to allow someone to follow their own course for they are going to experience all the ramifications of their situation. Maybe it can be placed on the inexperience of youth , even though he may have meant well sometimes ,just sometimes the likelyhood that someone own life experience allows that individual to inject a tad of common sense...

Acupuncture works for a lot of patients and realistically, what have you got to lose exept a little time and a few bucks. Another thing to think about is topical meds. Most people can't handle long term use of NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, Naprosyn, Voltaren etc) because of their effect on the stomach. Consider using these meds topically...ask your pharmacist about them.
