I flipped out last week when I broke a string and tried to restring. The Low E tuner fell out, and let's face it, I was having kittens over it.

Well, I got my guitar back Thursday and started practicing again today.

Put the cord in, amp on, and strummed a chord.

I was thinking, "What the *&^% was that? That's my guitar?"

It sounded really REALLY good. No buzzing whatsoever in the low E string. That guitar purred like a kitten. The tone was unbelievably clear, even through a tiny amp. I was stunned.

So all this time, when I got the guitar last year, it was the tuners that were crummy to begin with. The buzzing and the tinny noises that I had (even after the set up last year) were gone (I was thinking though...shouldn't they have caught the bad tuners on the set up??).

I'm a very happy camper right now.

PS--Again, thanks so much Claude.

Hi LVA, wow I'm so happy for you, I'm a happy camper as well. :D But wait, did you checked on the serial number? Maybe they decided to give you a Custom Shop guitar instead of your "ahem" Squier without telling you, just to get even. :? So could we say that a well tuned Squier is a good guitar? Yes. Some guitar techs are very good, some are so so, and most of them are good. But they are all involved in the learning process, and like with any job, they must get more experience, and have to deal with the politics of their working place. True. So the least we can do is to learn as much as we can about guitar set up, at least the basics, strings changing, intonation. We don't need to compete with the pros, we just need to be able to convince them that we know the stuff and they can't fool around with us. The same goes with any life situation where we can be victimized, stand your ground, ask for logical explanations, don't let nobody fool you with half answers. Again, I am pleased with the outcome but I am sad that I can't help you with your amp, but hey, you have a good guitar, so choose a good amp. :) See ya LVA.

LOL Nah, it's still a Squier. And wouldn't you know the guy I fought with the most at that store was the one who really did a great job on the guitar. We were even jawing about how it stinks that parts are made overseas now which affect the quality at times. We may fight but we reach common ground talking guitar. He pretty much said lots of things about guitars that I learned previously on this forum (God Bless the Internet and great Fender forum people)

I actually took a plunge and ordered an amp online--Peavey vypyr 75W. I dickered down on the price. I really did like the 30W at the music store, but I was looking at the 75W for a long time. Now it's in the hands of the guitar/amp gods.

I assume that you know that any amp should sit at an angle so the speaker can project the sound toward your head and not toward your feet. I don't have a sophisticated PA system at home, in fact I have just my amp and the tonal difference always surprizes me when I sit the amp on a chair or against the wall.
Anyways, I think that you made a wise choice, the Vypyr is a well documented amp and you should enjoy it a plenty. :)
May the Gods of music enlight your journey to master the guitar and guide you to improve your musician skills. Oh, and goodnight too. :D See ya.

Thanks for the tip. Never knew that. I'll have to snag a chair or save for one of those amp tilt stands (that now I won't be able to afford until heaven knows when LOL)

Have a good night.
