what is the best tuner pedal out there?

i play gigs about 1/2 a week. only inside

i dont really like the fender tuner personally.

think i am leaning to the BOSS TU-3, Korg Pitchblack, and the Planet Waves PW-CT-04

which is best?

I have the Boss TU-2 and I love it. Since Boss now has the TU-3, I'd probably buy that, if I had to get a replacement. It's built like a tank too. I had the Fender metal tuner, and I wasn't that impressed either.

The TU-2 also works for bass.

I also have the TU-2, and i love it too! It's fast, as you turn your tuning knob, the led's follow up to the sweet spot with no delay, till you get it nailed, and it shows you very quickly that your'e there. At the same time, a large window shows the letter designation of the string correcty, as you near the correct pitch. You can Check out youtube for a Boss TU-2 and TU-3 demo video to see what i mean, in living color, and stereo sound!

Oh yeah........it also acts as a power supply for your other pedals to save on 9 volt batteries. Just use a daisy chain.

I use the Boss PSA-120S AC Adapter to power the tuner and all my pedals. No battery cost at all.

I also have the Boss TU-3 and think it's terrifc. Works great (it's supposedly a bit more accurate than it's predecessor, the TU-2), easy to use and super-sturdy!

Before settling on the TU-3, though, you might also want to check out the TC Electronic Polytune tuner. It's the same price as the Boss pedal, and you can actually tune all six strings at the same time!

I haven't tried it myself, but it seems to be geting good reviews and would certainly be worth at least trying out before you buy anything.

Thanx Skeklops…Im actually building a new pedal board right now and after it is finished im gonna wire the whole thing for AC power… lately I have been using only 2 pedals the boss tuner and the BOSS blues driver… been using batteries just for the simplicity of the rig and faster set up and tear down..I do how ever always have the tuner hooked to the rig so I just hit Musicians friend and ordered a Boss PSA-120S….thanx for the tip my friend

Cheers
Bill

I've had the same Boss TU-2 since I was 13 and I've played every gig with it. It's totally reliable and bulletproof. When the time comes I plan on replacing it with a TU-3. The TU-3 has brighter lights with is extremely important since I gig outside in the Texas summer sun, which is too bright for the TU-2.

The TC Electronic Polytune is something I really want to look into as well. If the lights are as bright as the TU-3 then I might go with that.

Hi michael: most of us (me included) use the Boss tuner pedal - because way back we heard that is what everyone else uses! :D

I wouldn't get too hung up on brands though. There's plenty of other makes out there that do exactly the same job.

Still, I really would test-drive a couple before buying if I were you. There are small but genuine differences between them. For example, as far as small pocket tuners are concerned I am convinced my Boss TU-80 functions noticeably better than my Korg MA-30s. Though I usually get shot down round here for saying that!

With any kind of tuner just look for one that hears the note clearly and who's readout doesn't wobble around too much under the influence of overtones and stray signal. And remember to help it out by having your guitar's volume and tone knobs wide open while you tune.

Cheers - C

I've got the Korg PitchBlack.

It's pretty nice. Small, accurate (obviously), big display.

All you really need.

:)
