I just got tickets, 2nd row, for the Joe Bonamasa show in Durham, NC in November. I'm new to his music and got tickets largely based on the number of folks here who are fans.

So, I started looking for songs in iTunes to get geared up for the show. Unfortunately, all his highest rated songs are from his Albert Hall concert. Makes it hard to pick other music. Any recommendations?

The Ballard Of John Henry is my favourite JB Cd, followed by Blues Deluxe. All of his Cd's have 4-5 great songs.

Check the Tele forum for a cool video of a 12 yr old JB using Danny Gatton's Tele...and sounding really fine!

Ck Foley, looks like we will have to party! I got tickets on Section 1, row 2 seats 105-106!

Joe is going to tear the house down. You;re lucky to see him in a small venue like the DPAC. Regardless if it is a sellout or not you can count on him to play his $@! off from start to finish and not cut it short. I saw him for the first time in Riverside Ca this past March and it was the best concert I have ever seen. Can't wait to see him again in the Carolinas!

Hi ckfoley: what's great about your tickets is you are going to be close enough to the stage to hear the guitar sound coming from his rig rather than the PA. If that ain't the best guitar tone you've ever heard... I'll want to know what is! Please!!

Anyhow. The album versions of High Water Everywhere; Bridge to Better Days (what a solo!); and Asking Around For You, all from the You & Me album, are what first got me off on Joe Bonamassa. Unbeatable.

Also, you ain't going to fully get what's going on at a Bonamassa gig if you are not ready and waiting for Mountain Time and Sloe Gin. Those have to be played at all Joe Bonamassa football matches... :D

Enjoy - C

I agree with this 100%. I am usually waiting around for So Many Roads and Happier Times as well. Damn I wish it was November already

My wife's brother died. A few days later we had tickets for Joe, back in the days of nice small standing-only venues. Obviously, I said we needn't go but she was adamant she wanted to.

We found ourselves about six feet from the stage right in front of his pedalboard. The moment they launched into Sloe Gin my wife burst into tears and wept hard all the way through. I was saying; "C'mon, let's get out of here," but she wasn't having it. Joe was looking down at this woman in floods of tears at his playing and clearly thinking to himself; "Is that a good thing or a bad thing...???"

Later they did Asking Around For You and exactly the same scene repeated itself. It was a very intense show - probably for all concerned. Joe musta gone away that night thinking; "What the f...?"

Those songs still do it for my wife. And for me!

Cheers - C

My first time seeing him was in Riverside Ca at the Municipal Auditorium and it couldn't have been more than 1/2 full. This is a guy who plays packed houses and arenas and he played his $@! off for almost 3 hours and gave it 1000% for the small crowd. I was in the 16th row for that concert so I told myself if I ever get a chance to see him again it WILL be 1-5 rows. I have been to the Performing Arts Center in Durham where he is playing in November and it is a real intimate little venue.

Touching story about your experience at the concert. Joe's music definitely has that effect on me and many people. Happier Times and If Heartaches Were Nickels (even though he didn't write that one) are like mini-theme songs of mine.

Ceri and BlackCatBone - Thanks for the recommendations! I'm going to give these songs and albums a good listen in preparation. I've watched the Royal Albert Hall concert and if JB can come close to that performance it'll be wicked!

sounds like a plan

have you ever been to the DPAC before? I went to one concert there before but it looks like we are as close as you can get with row being only 5 sets left to right.

november needs to hurry up and get here!

well granted I saw him for the first time in a smaller venue, but I can say he will bring the same energy to the show in Durham. I have no doubt about that at all. Everyone I know who has seen him has told me he played his butt off at their concerts despite how big the crowd or venue was. I am not sure if he has ever ben to NC before but I imagine it is his first time playing the DPAC and he will put on a show you will never forget!

Whilst driving and when Joe is in the CD player, I tend to play "So Many Roads" over and over and over and over. This song is a lesson of the blues; it is the blues right to the core. It sends chills down my spine every time I hear it.......

In my humble opinion, Joe is on his way to the short list of Great Masters.
