Are there any songs that come to mind with superior lyrics... something where you forget about all the instruments and are locked into what is being said... something that puts a chill in your spine...

everyone is different... but ones that come to mind for me are...

XTC -- Dear God
Rush -- Red Barchetta
Doors -- Riders on the Storm, The End

Blind Joe Willie Reynolds/Cream- Outside Woman Blues

Quote:
If you lose your money, great God, don't lose your mind.
If you lose your money, great God, don't lose your mind.
And if you lose your woman, please don't fool with mine.

I'm gonna buy me a bulldog, watch my lady whilst I sleep.
I'm gonna buy me a bulldog, watch my lady whilst I sleep.
'Cause women these days, they're so doggone crooked,
That they might make off 'fore day creep.

Well, you can't watch your wife and your outside women, too.
You know you can't watch your wife and your outside womens, too.
Cause when you're out with your women, your wife will be at home,
Cooking your food, doing your dirt, buddy what you trying to do?

Tom Waits :

"when travelling abroad in the continental style
it's my belief one must attempt to be discreet
and subsequently bear in mind your transient position
allows you a perspective that's unique
though you'll find your itinerary's a blessing and a curse
your wanderlust won't let you settle down
and you'll wonder how you ever fathomed that you'd be content
to stay within the city limits of a small midwestern town

most vagabonds I know don't ever want to find the culprit
that remains the object of their long relentless quest
the obsession's in the chasing and not the apprehending
the pursuit you see and never the arrest
without fear of contradiction bon voyage is always hollered
in conjunction with a handkerchief from shore
by a girl that drives a rambler and furthermore
is overly concerned that she won't see him anymore

planes and trains and boats and buses
characteristically evoke a common attitude of blue
unless you have a suitcase and a ticket and a passport
and the cargo that they're carrying is you
a foreign affair juxtaposed with a stateside
and domestically approved romantic fancy
is mysteriously attractive due to circumstances knowing
it will only be parlayed into a memory"

I've heard this song a thousand times, and I choke up every single time:

The Beatles - "In My Life"

There are places I remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Blanket of Ghosts by Dustin Kensrue

I've got a feeling that's hard to explain.
Feels like the devil rents a room in my brain.
There's things I'm ashamed of I feel like dear ole St.Paul.
There's things that I want to do I don't do at all.

Chorus- So bury me deep, cover me with snow.
Wrap me in sleep in a blanket of Ghost.

The spirit is willing but the flesh is so weak.
I want to kiss your lips but instead I kiss your cheek.
Hear my request Lord give this one a fair wait.
Please take me home before it's too late.
Chorus + wake me when it's springtime in heaven when the tears are all wiped from my face wake me when it's springtime in heaven when I'm strong enough to walk in that place.
This is an awesome song that i love to cover everytime I play.
Lots of other songs too but this is one ive been diggin lately. I also like Tangled up in you by Staind
