I know on some forums, you have to post a certain amount in order to get onto certain areas of a forum (not sure if that's how it is here or not). That way, if spammers are out there, they are denied or at least contained to only a few areas. Maybe that could be done here? I'm not sure how that works. Just a suggestion.

Surely its cheaper and more effective to just buy advertising than to pay someone to go around every forum on the internet being irritating.

nope, its not. this is actually the "free" way of advertising.

No, it's a way of ruining your business. Respectable businesses don't spam people or other businesses. Advertising is expensive, but you need to target prospective clients and keep track of your return. If you don't you just piss your money away. Most consumers don't deal with spammers, they just delete it. I used to use direct mail and target prospective clients. The return was decent but not as good as word of mouth which is also free. A good referral can be worth thousands of dollars.

You guys may remember those who adverstise "systems" and "making mony from home" on youtube, twitter, myspace and your local 2nd rate newspaper, those are the spammer recruiters, it's nothing more than internet version of the chain letter/pyramid scheme. They get alot of greedy people and tell them that they can get rich just by sitting in front of the computer by using a certain "system", which is nothing more than "give me money and tell alot of other people to give me money". Most of the businesses that spammers are adverstising are in most cases not even legit businesses (the spammer himself may even not know it) and interacting with those businesses may be finincally hazardous.

The sad thing is that just like in Nigerian Scam, there are lot of stupid/greedy people that buy into these things. I trie to live my live according to the frase "You get nothing for nothing". 8)

:D :D :D

Recently I saw a TV show from the days I was just starting to go into bars. A guy bought a pint of beer and a large brandy for £0.65 / 96c. Strange: it didn't seem that cheap at the time...

Cheers - C

Man you gotta be joking. I was buying at 42p a pint. 20 no6 cost 90p.

Mind you I was drasticaly under age.

Be fair, 65p was a pint and a double brandy. (It was on an obscure old Richard Briers sitcom). And talking about under age: I was working in a pub at 14! :D

Cheers - C

PS Apologies to Tanner for the repeated hijacking of his thread...

I remember 25cent a gallon gas too! They used to have what they called back then "Gas Wars" That's where each station was trying to get the station across the street customers by selling gas 1 or 2 cents cheaper. Kind of like playing a game of "chicken" to see who would give in first. Some stations went as far as selling below their own cost! Those were the days. Also, believe it or not, you could quit a job you didn't like and get another one by the next day!!
What happened? :?

I was there too. And they gave you gifts for a purchase of 8 gallons or more.
