Lately yall have probably noticed we have been gaining a lot of spammers on this wonderful site. i did a little research and i figured out why.

There is something called "organic traffic." organic traffic is any "free" advertisment business owners can use to get people to there site and get there site closer to the first page on search results.

Aparrently the more these business owners post key words to there websites, it is more probable for their company to show up closer to the first page when someone searches something related to their business.

Then of course the obviouse, link posting which they first of all do to draw in the people on the forum. Second, they also use link posting to make it look like there is a lot of interest in their company thus getting them closer to the first page of search results on google.

Just thought i would share that with yall.

That's basically it but it goes a little deeper than that. I'm self employed and do get on the first page of google, but it's because I'm linked to someone who pays for his position. I wouldn't spam a single soul. Just report them to Brad and he'll delete then straight away. Don't even reply to them.

I get the reason for it. The bit that amazes me is that it could be worth the effort. The time it takes to locate forums that are about something you probably don't even know about, then fill out the joining form, log on, submit your one post...

OK, only a few minutes work, but then only one little post which will shortly be deleted. How much is this guy getting paid per hour?

Get a life - or a better one, anyhow.

I wish they'd just turn up on my doorstep. Then I could punch them in the face, like in the old days...

(As if; but it's fun to re-invent the past.)

Cheers - C

PS Ah, Brad is showing at the top of the page and the latest spammer has vanished. Thanks Brad! :D

I reported the dating guy. What a strapper.
C, I remember the old days too. :D

No, spamming is not worth the effort. I block all that crap from my email.

Ah: when the summers were hotter, the girls were prettier, and beer only cost -

No no, we mustn't do that!

Back to reality.

At least it's not as intrusive as telemarketing. THAT should be illegal! How many hundreds, (or thousands), of people have to be inconvenienced to make one cruddy sale?

All in the name of "doing business". Bah! Humbug! And you can't punch them in the face! (Not that I could or would - but you know what I mean.)

Ahh, thinking of the good old days when beer was 20 cents a glass, (not a pint.)

Ahhhh.

Recently I saw a TV show from the days I was just starting to go into bars. A guy bought a pint of beer and a large brandy for £0.65 / 96c. Strange: it didn't seem that cheap at the time...

You Guys are talking about the days when we went to school and did Math, there were no calculators. You come home from school and turn the TV on by pulling out the button and the tube made there noise coming up and turning a dial to change channels. Car tires had inner tubes and the days version of a micro wave was an little electric oven.

Surely its cheaper and more effective to just buy advertising than to pay someone to go around every forum on the internet being irritating.

I remember 25cent a gallon gas too! They used to have what they called back then "Gas Wars" That's where each station was trying to get the station across the street customers by selling gas 1 or 2 cents cheaper. Kind of like playing a game of "chicken" to see who would give in first. Some stations went as far as selling below their own cost! Those were the days. Also, believe it or not, you could quit a job you didn't like and get another one by the next day!!
What happened? :?

No, it's a way of ruining your business. Respectable businesses don't spam people or other businesses. Advertising is expensive, but you need to target prospective clients and keep track of your return. If you don't you just piss your money away. Most consumers don't deal with spammers, they just delete it. I used to use direct mail and target prospective clients. The return was decent but not as good as word of mouth which is also free. A good referral can be worth thousands of dollars.
