i have a strat h/s/s and currently have a duncan sh-6 distorion in the bridge, stock pu in the middle and a hotrail in the neck, but was considering swapping the distortion with a seymour duncan blackout.

i play everything. metal, ska, reggae, punk , country, blues southern rock exc

my reasoning is i want a little more low in my bridge position, i like the dd but its kindof bity and have never tried an active

what are you thoughts?? pros? cons?

turn the tone control for the bridge down :) or try a pio cap , you can pick these up cheap , it's usually a 47U in the strat with 250k pots , but if the bucker has just been dropped in you might want to change the cap to a 22U and the tone pot to a 500k , this should darken things a good bit , hth

Fist off let me say I have never used the Blackout, But I love active pickups..Im using the EMG’s and really dig them…Pickups are like any other gear it personal taste as far as how they sound. Actives will give you all you have with a passive and a bit more as you can now use more of your guitar volume for more range of soundzzz..

As far as getting more low in the bridge position with an active P/U.. I don’t think you will see much difference.. that position is very high end with most pickups… may want to swap tone pots (500k)and work your lower end from it as well and the eq on your amp, but I don’t think you will get what your looking for with just a pickup swap in the low end dep…….

also you also need to consider that putting an active in the bridge and leaving passive in the middle and neck is gonna’ mess up your MoJo… the bridge will be far more high out put than the other two even the hot rail that you volume jump will be considerable when switching back and forth…this may be fine for a recording rig or playing at home but in a live situation this will be insanity you will soon grow to hate. …I would go all active or all passive and save yourself money on lithium you’ll need after trying to regulate your volume differences. The sh6 is a great pickup by the way. Your guitar sounds like it is set up pretty cool now. Im curious what type of amp your driving with your guitar. You can drive you amp a bit harder with passives but it all depends on the sounds your looking for………Like I said I never used thre Duncan active but Here is a good set fron emg for H/s/s set up

Cheers

I use a EMG 81/85 set with a clapton mid boost on em, wired full on all the time. I also have a claptonized strat with a Dimarzio FS2 in the bridge position. Love em, versatile as a swiss army knife, quiet as a church mouse. More power than a V12 bulldozer driven by Sterling Moss.

In truth I can't see why a well thought out circuit as Alan suggested doesn't have the capability to be dark enough. If it is wired up as Alan suggested then maybe it's your outboard settings/gear.
