Definitely my goodly self. I was listening to him since I started playing (1967).

..BTW a bottom up Strat really helps in doing Jimi covers as having the whammy bar right under your right wrist you can subtly depress the bar with your wrist while playing and once you get the hang of it you can get some great Hendrixy effects such as the air raid siren sounding hammer-ons in Machine Gun...

This old dog was just taught a new trick. I've seen Hendrix do it a million times yet I never gave it a second thought until now. Thank you! :D

One of my favorite CDs is The Very Best of Albert King. As you would expect it has all the good ones. My favorite tracks -- "I'll Play the Blues for You, Pt. 1" and "Blues Power".

mclmk8d- I saw in your profile photo that you have a tele with a Bidby style vibroto. I used to own one these guitars and had nothing but problems.

1. The bridge that Fender uses do not suite that guitar. A Les Paul style bridge would work better.
2. They are a pain in the but to restring. If the pegs were longer or curved it would work.

I do think it's a really nice vibroto, but it needs work.

Let know if you have had any problems and what are your thoughts.

I'm sorry but I never recorded the song. Maybe one day.

Care to share that song with us? :) I would say Albert influenced my playing so much that 80% of my playing consists of his licks! 100% when playing the V.

One of my favorite version of the song is the one with Rory Ghallager, this was my first Albert album I owned..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQrTdPTQPxw

Enjoy!

Albert King invited Rory up on stage to jam with him, but didn't tell him
what key he was playing in- looking at King didn't help because of his
unorthodox style. One of the horn players eventually for one of the songs
told him "B natural boy".... Anyway..... the highlight of the album to me is Rory's solo in " As the Years Go Passing By" - listen one time to know why Rory was such a great musician.

Oh yeah, he's great.

Seeing this thread a few days ago prompted me to find my Albert King & SRV CD and I've been listening to it for the past few days as a result.

Actually there were 4 Kings,in addition to B.B.,Albert and Freddie there was Earl King who wrote Come On covered by Jimi Hendrix as Come On parts 1&2 on Electric Ladyland.

my favorite quote from albert king is on an instructional guitar video he had some time ago -
"first thing you gotta do is throw your pick away... now you got FIVE picks..."

i have to confess, i haven't thrown my pick away yet.
and yes, a great photo.

I have to admit, that solo by Rory is one of my all time favorite blues solo, very tasty licks, nothing fancy, lots of soul... but then when Albert finishes his singing and humming and starts his solo I forget all about Rory :)

5 picks, he only used one, his thumb! :)

My favorite quote from Albert "you cant grow nothing on poor soil!" anyone know where that's from? I'm sure only die-hard fans like myself would know this and the song it came from

I've borrowed quite a lot of riffage from Albert. I have several of his albums, but really dig Blues at Sunset.

Track listing

1."Match Box Blues" (Albert King) – 4:41
2."Got To Be Some Changes Made" (King/Conrad) – 5:31
3."I'll Play the Blues For You" (Jerry Beach) – 5:40
4."Killing Floor" (Chester Burnett) – 3:37
5."Angel of Mercy" (Banks/Jackson) – 5:02
6."Match Box Blues" (King) – 5:22
7."Watermelon Man" (Herbie Hancock) – 2:35
8."Breaking Up Somebody's Home" – 5:02
9."Stormy Monday" (Aaron "T-Bone" Walker) – 11:51

Oh yeah, got that one too, and pretty much all of his live recordings... Got to be some changes made, that's some serious slow blues there! "if you dont like my peaches, you dont have to shake my tree!" :)
