I have a 2000 lefty Strat strung right handed especially for Hendrix stuff. Previously I had an ash bodied 78-79 lefty Strat strung right handed but it weighed almost as much as 2 Les Pauls and almost broke my back.BTW a bottom up Strat really helps in doing Jimi covers as having the whammy bar right under your right wrist you can subtley depress the bar with your wrist while playing and once you get the hang of it you can get some great Hendrixy effects such as the airraid siren sounding hammer-ons in Machine Gun.I can see why SRV modded all his Strats like that.

I actually tried a couple of guitars first, my Start included, then decided to just get a cheap V copy, have some work done to it, so I can enjoy playing some Albert the "right" way...

Here's a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoUrJZLfUa0

I've been known to grab lefty Strats off the wall at Guitar Center and try playing some licks when nobody's watching... I don't think I'll ever really get it though, at least not as far as playing chords go. It's hard thinking upside down!

I do the same thing but I take it a step further and change to Albert's tuning so the next person who picks up the guitar will wonder what happened to it! :D

What exactly was his tuning? I've heard it was Eb, but I don't know.

Well Stevie tuned to Eb, Albert's tuning was something completely different... not sure if you would call it E9 or E6, it's a big mess :) his high E was tuned down to C#, which then makes the B a G#, the rest is a mystery, I'm not really sure if how I tune is exactly how Albert tuned... I got this tuning form watching vids of him playing many many times!

So that's why Stevie did up the wammy bar where he did! until now, i just assumed it was just his creative preference, and remained in the dark as to exactly why. Thanks for sharing the wealth man!

I tell you what, it's really comfortable. I tried an SRV Strat with the whammy upside down like it is and it made it a lot easier to play! Particularly Hendrix stuff. I don't have the guts to modify either of my Strats like that though. Maybe one day I'll get a beater specifically for that purpose. :)

There's probably an interview somewhere that has the answer. Or maybe not. Alternate tunings usually mess me up even more than lefty guitars so I probably won't try that in public.

Albert King played a big part in my delelopement as player. I eventually wrote a song and realized that I was basically copying, "As The Years Go Passing By."

I don't think it's all his guitars, I know #1 was modded, I know Lenny wasn't... I had the SRV sig strat, which comes setup that way, I didn't really like it, but then again I'm not much of a whammy player :)

Care to share that song with us? :) I would say Albert influenced my playing so much that 80% of my playing consists of his licks! 100% when playing the V.

One of my favorite version of the song is the one with Rory Ghallager, this was my first Albert album I owned..

Enjoy!

I must say I worship his recorded jams with Jim Morrison, although the quality may not be seemingly good. I can recall atleast one official release, although I can remember the name of it. I must have it dustied down some where...
