I know he's not known to play Fender guitars... or is he? :)

I happen to be a huge fan! Been listening to his music and copying his licks for at least 20 years...

Anyone lucky enough to see him live? I've seen him a couple of times and it has always been some of the best live performance for me.

I'm a HUGE Albert King fan! :D He was really the first blues player I listened to after I initially heard SRV. I watched the videos on youtube with Albert King and SRV and I was totally blown away by both. The funny thing is that at the time I thought that Albert King was ripping off SRV. My sense of time is all screwed up since I wasn't alive then.

But anyway, I've been ripping off Albert King licks ever since. :D

LOL glad u got it all figured out now :D

for me it was the other way around, AK introduced me to SRV believe it or not... back in the 80s whenever I would hear of SRV I would think oh great another white guy wanting to play the blues :) it wasn't until after SRV passed away that I really started to appreciate him...

I tried for years to copy AK's licks, only one that could do it without playing upside down was Stevie IMO. Eventually I gave up and learnt how to play upside down :)

One of the first bonafide blues guitarists I ever saw was Albert King at a club in Belleville, Illinois back in early '69. It was a real eye opener for this kid. He played his trademark Flying V through an Acoustic 260 and every note he picked could've cracked walnuts. Talk about cutting through the mix -- it was awesome!

Wow! What a picture. As a strat guy and a huge Albert King fan, that is my perfect picture. I think he is perhaps the single most important influence on all the "guitar gods". His phrasing, style and licks influenced just about everyone whose records we all have. Really enjoyed that pic.

Thanks,

Joe

you are one lucky guy Arjay! I wish I had the chance to see AK back then but I'm not that old :D

I actually got to see him at the New Orleans Jazz Fest back in '91 I think... when Albert passed away I was devastated, he was my idol. I drove up to Memphis and made it to the funeral to pay my respect to this great man. It was the least I can do to thank him for this great music he left behind.

I've been known to grab lefty Strats off the wall at Guitar Center and try playing some licks when nobody's watching... I don't think I'll ever really get it though, at least not as far as playing chords go. It's hard thinking upside down!

It's not too late to start :) I'm a big fan of his live CDs, and of course Stax. Live in Chicago 1978 is a great start!

When I was in Memphis in 87 I almost saw Albert King (one of my alltime idols)at a venue next to the Peabody Hotel but sadly as I was walking in he was just finishing up his last encore,I was devastated.I had spent 2 hrs. at the Rendezvous across the street enjoying the best ribs in the world when I could have been enjoying one of the best bluesmen in the world.Albert always impressed me more than B.B.,Freddie or Earl King, his playing just hit a nerve that the other Kings couldn't.

I do the same thing but I take it a step further and change to Albert's tuning so the next person who picks up the guitar will wonder what happened to it! :D
