Yea, it's a trip huh. That actually happens a lot with Rock Bands. I know Korn has been using Fenders for recording stuff from time to time as well. Since the first self-titled CD.

Here's even a newer video of them recording their recent album with Munky using a Tele and a Black Strat:

I think they will use vintage guitars and amps of all kinds to get different sounds.

However, on tour they need something reliable that can also easily be replaced in almost any city in case of theft or damage. You don't want to bring your rare irreplaceable amps and guitars on tour. So much tone is lost and absorbed by bodies and noise in concert, you would be able to make much difference in the sounds if they did play the rare stuff...its pointless to bring it on tour.

I think some of that may be true. But there is also the case of being endorsed. I know Munky has been endorsed by Ibanez since the beginning of his career. And it may be that he HAS to play them live due to the endorsement and well... He has a signature guitar with them. I'm not sure what kind of contracts are signed with major endorsements.. Hopefully I can find out in the future. :D

Looks like that's the case with KH as well. Tour= sport the endorsement, recording= fair game.

Maybe the Strats just dont look metal. Same design for how many decades now. Not rocking the Strat, I love mine and why change a recipe?

Fender needs a metal looking guitar. There's no reason they can't produce another line.

In the studio, Pete Townshend of The Who used this Gretsch, but on the stage he used SG's and Les Paul's. He needed a guitar that was easy to replace and easy to smash :D

I wish Fender would make a humbucking kick a## guitar , and I hate when someone brings up Charvel or Jackson because they are not Fenders and have there own history. That is like when some great Ball Player after 25 years plays one year in some other city and that city wants to claim him.

So Charvel and Jackson's history matters but not Fender's? They have the most storied history of all of the guitar manufacturers, but you want them to change....To use your analogy it is like some great ball player leaving town after 25 years to play for the competition.
