Is there any harsher lesson learned than with your first vintage nitro guitar, putting it in a guitar stand, then coming back a few days later, picking your guitar up and the stand comes with it glued on?

I remember the very first nitro fender i got this happend to. 1966 mustang. sick mint, hardly played, i only had it two weeks after the previous guy kept it under a bed for 50 years.

it was quite a shock, nobody tells you this until after the fact, like "oh didn't you know nitro and foam don't mix"

lucky my local guitar shop was able to rub the two black foam imprints of my guitar, only the clear coat was scarred. I had the thing another two weeks before i put its first ding in it, oh well live and learn :x

Some nitro lacquers can take up to a year to out-gas and fully cure. You're fortunate the damage to your guitar wasn't too severe.

To protect my Mary Kay whenever it's on a stand, my wife gave me some of those elastic velour "hair scrunchies" that I wrapped around all the foam tubing. It's worked well -- no problems observed (thus far).

Try putting old t-shirts or socks over the tubing.

I do the same thing - mine's not on stage so it's an easy solution

Another thing that you can do is cut the fingers out some old gloves and slide them over the foam pads.

Me too, but not before my Hwy1 Tele suffered a "burn".

The foam is better than that cheap orangey tubing.

But I keep my stuff in the cases, and not all of it is nitro.

Thats exactly what I do. I drape a old Tshirt over the stand. Cheapest easiest option that works on every stand and looks infinitely better on a dark stage.
