For me, the 56 Goldtop VOS with P90s sounds unbelievable through
my Fender Blues Deluxe RI.

Nevin, the big price difference in the R8 and R9 is the flame maple tops on the R9 and it's lighter. See Link (scroll down quite a bit ) http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibson- ... 101-a.html ..I'd like a 59 myself............... 8) Mike

I like the Les Paul Classics. I don't know if they still make them but they're good guitars. With Gibson it's probably a good idea to look for a used instrument. You'll get better bang for the buck that way.

Atlast a studio in a decent colour, but they go and put p90's on it  (their designers are definitely on crack). Whats next eh? A studio with a telecaster bridge?
Still it may be worth venturing out of the front door to check out. I reckon they'd look killer with a bigsby on em.

I'm pretty happy with my Gibson LP Standard and have no desire to go looking at any more Gibson's.

Hi Nevin, the best Les Paul I've ever played bar none was an Epiphone 1960 reissue,it sounded and played better than any Les Paul of any brand. My buddy who was with me and is a Les Paul owner and fanatic agreed that was the best that he'd ever come across and it was only $1039.00.

Bruno, I can't disagree with you on that point mate. Even though I know their THE original LP pickup, I'll always equate that guitar with nickel covered magnets.

Also the point I was trying to raise is that they would likely alienate 3/4s of the prospective LP studio customers because of that little detail.

You're right, I'll enjoy the P90's. Fuller sounding than a strats singlecoils, can do glassy or raw. In a lot of ways their everything I want. However I am not every customer. My main concern with some of Gibson's more outlandish designs lately, is that they are not providing much competition to the other 2 big names. When people don't have competition their standards eventually slip. It's happened before, it can happen again.
