me and my friend are finally getting a band started over the summer!!!!! 8)
currently, we're the only 2 members and we dont know if he should play lead or do drums and keep it a 3 piece... we plan on finding our bassist (and possibly a drummer) and rehersing over the summer then once school starts, since he knows just about our whole school, we should have no problem getting the gig at any party we want! (and believe me, we will have no shortage of chances at that school lol)
so far we've agreed that:
im the vocalist and guitar
we open and end with a cover
we do mostly original, but some covers
we. are. grunge.

not only this, but his mom has a friend at our favorite radio station and we're gonna have internships there over the summer 8) .... finally a summer where i wont just be sitting on my *ss in whatever i fell asleep in the night before all day every day

good luck with that man. i've been wanting to start a band with my friend for a long time. we're both pretty good but the problem is he's into metal and i'm more of a blues guy. fusion band? we also need a drummer... and possibly a singer. :?

he'll say, "but im $@!& no one wants to hear me", and when we're not trying to practice, he says he really wants to do it and be in a band and talks about how far we'll get. i laugh at that.

I dont think I'll practice with him again, he's starting to piss me off anyway, he's so full of it and he claims he likes grunge and punk but I hear him listening to all the crappy mainstream justin gaga crap all the time.

Watch this version;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnJYhklfb00

theres a whole other bunch of other songs from that performance (live and loud), check it out if you haven't.

It's always good to see a new band just starting. Having formed or joined bands, here is my advice to you. Take what you want out from it or nothing at all.

1. The band is not about 1 person. It's a group effort and all decisions should reflect that. Keep your egos at the door.
2. Go with your strengths. If someone can't sing, but wants to, don't keep them as a lead singer. Being in a band is a business. If your product isn't moving then change what's not working. This happened to me a few years ago. I had a great bass player, but he sucked at singing.
3. Find a good manager. Someone who is not a member of the band, has the band's best interests at heart and has good people skills. Also it doesn't hurt any if the manager is a bit of d**k. You'll get more of what you want and you won’t get screwed.
4. Have a goal and vision. Have sound in mind. Not having a musical vision will kill your band or prevent you from getting hired. Have a vision that stands out.
5. Drummers and Bass players MUST have good (and steady) rhythm. Lead singers MUST be able to work the crowd.
6. Always look like your having a blast when you perform. Get the crowd involved and make them feel like they are part of the band.
7. Never treat your fans like dirty. They are ones who are going to make you successful.
8. Practice, practice and practice some more. Get good and tight before you play in front people.

9. Have fun.

Good Luck!

Paris

im definitely gonna take that advice.... as for a manager, we want to keep 3 at most 4 people involved in any way at this point, so im not sure what we'll do there... i might just do it because i AM a d**k more often than not and im bloody good at getting what i want lol.
fans- well, our major influences are punk, grunge, and AC/DC (IMO they dont belong in any genre), so crowd interaction is going to be heavy, especially considering we'll be doing A LOT of parties (not like birthday parties... like, some fool drunk off his *ss, weed and alcohol everywhere, etc.... by all accounts the parties at that school are ridiculous)
