Isn't there always a "®" after the Fender name?

And the truss rod hole does look suspect as well.

I also think the string tree is too close to the nut by about a centimeter. Should be almost over the letter "D" in Fender according to my headstock.

So I assume the issue is that it's an exspensive CS that's less than 2 months old and shouldn't be doing that.

I assumed all the physical defects were part of the "Relic" job... a feature I just can't quite come to terms with.

Looks like a neoprene reaction to me. Was it hung or stored no a guitar hanger or stand ever?

Did you get the Johnson from the same shop?

I suspect it's something the shop has done. If you look its down to bare plain maple.

That is why I do not like relic jobs. I thought the chip was just part of the relic job. Seriously, rub some dirt into the chip, wipe it down and it would probably look similar to the relicing on the rest of the neck.
