I literally been able to find 15 minutes to play in the last 2 weeks. Between work, my baby (actual baby not one of my guitars), and everything else my guitars might as well be glued into the stand.

Don't get me wrong, my family is my favorite thing in my life. I just wish I could get some time to play.

Anyone else go through a drought?

i went through a big drought in my life. i played in bands from 66 to 78, when the last band i played in broke up. i got burned out , and wanted to take some time off.

from 78 to around 7 or 8 years ago, i hardly picked up a guitar. i got married, had kids, and other things took priority.

i now play at least an hour a day, and have a few bands that i sit in with from time to time. it's enough to keep me happy. i don't think i'll go back to playing full time.

i go through small droughts here and there. Not because I dont wanna play but because my old friends wanted me to go for a ride with them. If i dont go i feel guilty.

Goose,

I know EXACTLY what you mean. With work and family commitments, by the time I get a chance to play its midnight and I'm too tired. I have a lesson every other week and I often feel unprepared. I will never advance as a player unless I can find some time to devote to the guitar. I know it's supposed to be fun, and it is, but I still want to get better.

Hey Goose, been there done that, but it gets better with time. Once the kids got a little older and did'nt need to be watched every minute of every day I gradually found more time. One of the best things was playing music with my two sons, I found if they were playing music I did'nt have worry about where thay were or what they were doing. Now that they are grown and out on their own, it's just me and Mrs. babalooga and life is good. There's food in the frig (the pirhanas in sneakers are gone) and my wife does'nt care how much I play :D .

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I do take weekly lessons but as mainburner said I usually am not as prepared as I would like. Babalooga gives me hope too. My step son is 11 (he won't play a fender bc he says G&L's sound better. I have one too so I don't discourage him ha ha) and he gets to play 10 times as much as me and is getting pretty good and if I don't get some practice time, he's going to leave me in his wake. :)

Anyways, I work the night shift tomorrow and the kid and baby are going out with the wife during the day so I might get an hour to make the dogs def. ha ha.

Hey Goose, don't be surprised if your step son leaves you in his wake. Kids can learn so much faster than adults, proof again that youth is wasted on the young  .

I usually try to play for an hour three days out of the week but have been through droughts up to two months because of the children and other household responsibilities. The best thing to overcome your dilemma is to get an acoustic and play it to get your baby to sleep then move to another room and continue with your practice. You will be amazed at how much better your electric feels when you get the chance to rip loose on it. Either way I applaude you for keeping your priorities in order.

It happens to most of us--unless our lives are boring.

I got caught up with life and did not play but maybe an hour a month for almost 10 years. You just have to do a little give and take. Maybe even cut out some TV time, a favorite show, not hanging out with your buds. Squeeze some time together. You need to take care of your familly, but you need to take care of you as well.

Been there, done that, coped.

During going back to finish undergrad and through masters classes, 'allowed 5 minutes per day and sort of enforced it. For almost 4 years.

After being widowed with 2 little ones, about the same, after they were in bed.

Keep at it, if playing is important, you will manage. Hang in there.

I am currently going through my own drought, as well. Between work and having three kids, sometimes it just does not fit into the plan for the day. But then periods will come where I will have a lot of time ... but it is just "not so much" right this second and for the back half of last month ...
